Talking with a fellow forumer the other day I realized we all come here for different reasons and stay for reasons varied as well. Yet, from all of us a somewhat consistent tone comes from it all.
To me, SE++ is like The Algonquin Round Table or a royal court where one's wit determines your station.
I feel the backbone of SE++ is the witty statement, the brilliant bon mot that delights and provokes jealousy at the same time.
So what are the characteristics of the perfect witty post?
The perfect post is short, anything too long betrays an inability to focus your thoughts and robs them of their power
The perfect post is funny in a way that is particularly relevant to the discussion, it may be funny to everyone but becomes more enjoyable the more shared knowledge you have of the forum and the topic
Finally the perfect post is obvious in a way that no one else would think of but once it is posted, everyone immediately understands
So, how about everyone else
What brought you here?
Why do you stay?

the trends that continue to run their logical course, annoying as they are aren't that off putting that it's worth abandoning altogether

I think the greatest thing about SE++ is the real communication it occasionally yields, and the ability for people to seriously touch the lives of others in a way that they would not have without SE++
The humor is great, but I think the forum is at its best when people come together and find a community in something that they thought they experienced alone
What brought me here was boredom, what keeps me here is weakness

and he was like go ahead and sign up so you'll have an older join date and people won't ignore you
a cat who cannot bring he self to say something for the sake of saying it unless he is truely a warlord beyond our collective ability to understand
that cat must hone he craft, must communicate mindful of his communication tool at his hands
but really people are pretty cool here
I don't find se++ as funny as I used to, maybe because people seem generally nicer than they used to.
I get bored when it goes for pages and pages of forumers doing their darndest to validate the shit out of each other.

Tube's still constantly hilarious and something about Fiz's humor makes his posts a pleasure to read
otherwise, after I was here for a month or two and I started to recognize the patterns I found it all less funny
I can't remember the last time I laughed out louded at a post that wasn't Tube's or Fiz's
e: actually there are probably a couple other posters I find funny but Tube and Fiz are the biggies

plus it helped that we got a bunch of new people that turned into great and beloved posters, so that eased the transition

There is a definite organization here
It's the reason people have to lurk for so long before posting
There is an atmosphere that we all contribute to
It does not suffer fools or inane chatter

also the community is generally very supportive in times of trouble, and knows when to let the insults go
