the era of hardware is over, just get a few softsynths. There's a guy with a collection of freebie softsynths, several of which are explicitly designed to mimic iconic NES sounds and chiptuney tones, but i'm drawing a blank on his name.
If you wanna at least seem legit though LSDJ is pretty dope, and it runs on Nintendo hardware so that helps the street cred. I've seen some pretty cool projects that I think uses a bluetooth receiver to connect wiimotes with a pc, then sends it out as midi to an arduinoboy to a gameboy running LSDJ. Long story short, you can play songs with a wii rock band controller that get's played through a gameboy's sound chip.

LSDJ is software for gameboy that does basically everything you're wanting to, check out some youtubes for it, it's pretty cool. Everything else was sort of crazy over the top stuff that basically achieves something really simple in a novel way.

for instance, i #closed a lawyer three days ago and we talked today and the conversation steered towards gays and i said the following..
Me: " yeah, i don't like gays"
