I was messing around doing this
When working on layers, i did a sketch, the a black and white value sketch over it. Then to color the black and white i did an overlay layer over that. When Flattening the layers (CTRL E) the overlay layer keeps fing everything up. How do i get the effects of the overlay layer to stay as it appear while merging with other layers? Is there an easier way to color black and white images?
Lewis, I like the "fish eye" curvilinear perspective you have going there, but I think you need to push the contrast a bit more and clean up your values, some of your gradients are a bit muddy.
Also are you working according to a grid setup, or are you trying to eyeball the fisheye perspective? I think there's a bit more you can do to improve the arc of the perspective towards the center.
It's a very ambitious piece, and a fantastic idea, I applaud this line of thinking so keep it up!
Edit: punktuashun :B
Hey man,
I'm sorry I never responded to this! It's great advice! But I got caught up with finishing the semester and had to polish the picture enough for submission. Well this is what it looks like. I was pretty clueless about the colouring but hey! Learned a lot making the picture and I feel pretty good about it now.
I always feel intimidated about posting here.
I am going to put this in a mousepad but I have never printed anything in one, is there something I have to take into consideration before doing so?
BRO LET ME GET REAL WITH YOU AND SAY THAT MY FINGERS ARE PREPPED AND HOT LIKE THE SURFACE OF THE SUN TO BRING RADICAL BEATS SO SMOOTH THE SHIT WILL BE MEDICINAL-GRADE TRIPNASTY MAKING ALL BRAINWAVES ROLL ON THE SURFACE OF A BALLS-FEISTY NEURAL RAINBOW CRACKA-LACKIN' YOUR PERCEPTION OF THE HERE-NOW SPACE-TIME SITUATION THAT ALL OF LIFE BE JAMMED UP IN THROUGH THE UNIVERSAL FLOW BEATS
You're right, I don't love that. But the amount of progress you've made in 11 years is so astonishing that I want to consume your brain in order to gain some of your life essence.
Remedy that.
EDIT: This was lookin' real bad, then I decided to chose a light source like I've always been told and it got a lot better.
My biggest critique would be that half of his head seems to be missing. Its sitting in this weird place where its not quite profile and its not quite 3/4ths.
I like the sink overflowing, because it could be water, but the way it's rendered makes it look like it could also be a sort of viscous jelly slime and instantly makes me think that some drunk alien couldn't wait for an open stall.

The Brimley Crab, named after the star of the popular "Diabeetus" commercials due to it's ridiculous mustache like fibers above it's mouth, is notorious for it's odd cackle like sound it emits when using the bathroom. It's very similar in auditory composition to that of an asshole who won't shut up about his day at the urinal of a popular locale, and furthermore, if you ever see a Brimley Crab's third leg begin to twitch and shake, you are advised to move to the nearest stall so that you are not drenched with waste matter, as Brimley Crabs both urinate and have bowel movements at the same time when stressed.
Spectre those both look cool, but I think I prefer the first one.
Really there are a lot of great pieces on this page.
This started as a quick 10 second sketch, then I decided to waste a few extra minutes on it. Photoshop, no ref.
Plenty wrong with it, but it was educational.

Random little doodle I might do more with. Working with perspectives/vanishing points, but I need to re-adjust some of the sizes of everything
Just leaving this here.
