We had a few tornado sirens going off here in Kansas City. They had moved us to our buildings basement area under our parking garage. I guess a couple had touched down near downtown KC. Was a nice break from work in the end as nothing actually hit us downtown thankfully.
This is only my second year in the Kansas/Missouri area, this is the first real tornado I've had come that close though since coming here.
There are more coming from the south though so who knows, may get a second run at it...
First:
The tornado probability map I posted above has been updated. The 30% zone now has been enlarged on the north side to cover a much larger area of MO, IL, and IN, roughly on a St. Louis to Indianapolis line. A major tornado outbreak is ongoing across eastern MO, southwest IL, and northern AR. If you live in the Ohio River, Central Mississippi River, or western Tennessee River valleys, you need to be on alert now.
Second:
Here's a before and after comparison of Joplin, MO:
yeah last night the skys were clear and everything was fine up here. I went to sleep at about 5 this morning and I guess all hell broke loose at like 9 or 10 am.
What weather alarm radio is good? The one I had broke after a few months. It has a warranty, but I'm not going to experiment with model reliability on a lifesaving device.

Honestly, I'm not sure. It's not something that people ever really review :P. A lot of people seem to do OK with whichever one that Wal-Mart carries, though.
Sirens have been going off for a while here and I can hear thunder and see stuff on the radar, but the sun is still shining and there are hardly any clouds in the sky.
Looks like nature is just waiting to punk me.

Earlier today I was warned about severe weather.
I'm kinda boned if there's another nado.

It's not bad from what I read but price range can be iffy given it may run upwards of 80+ dollars.
The website though has a lot of products to review so you can glean some things you like and do a search for things that tickle your fancy.
I'd also suggest, if you have a smartphone, to get the app Scanner Radio. It's somewhat useful since you can possibly hear something going on over the fire or police band that may give you an early warning. Also useful for listening for a cop radio for more handcuffs at a given location.

Naw, he won't fuck with both of us in the same week.
it's a trade-off. Tomorrow I go for the first blood panel, so I expect I'll have a terminal case of surprise-ebola.
After Monday though, it's your turn.

Sirens are going off here but I think they are just severe storm sirens. And I took a look at the radar and it is just a blip passing through before the real storm hits in a couple of hours.

No place that I know of hits the sirens for a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. The small cells out front are more dangerous than the main line.

The only time I've heard them is when it looks bad. Street lights on in the middle of the day is a good sign.

Sitting on the balcony, smokin and drinkin, watching the weather
The 10 days of the year when it does rain in LA it fucking STINKS.
It sucks because people don't know how to drive in it for some reason! There was that week this past October (I think) where it rained the entire time and on the first day there were over 300 accidents on the freeways.

Goddamn
Sometimes I think there's a weird social dynamic going on when it rains. People think everyone else is driving like idiots, so they feel compelled to join in.

Yeah, you need to be watching your local news. I think the worst of it should be out of the immediate StL area in the next couple hours, though.

luckily despite the warnings I think there have been no confirmed tornadoes yet or even wind damage reports

For just an alerter, it seems a decent amount of reviewers have used and suggested Midland WR300.

The threat in Tuscaloosa is more for tomorrow. Won't be anything like what we're seeing today or 4/27, though - probably more of a wind/hail threat.

Stupid Southern California weather.
It's like a minor earthquake with wind and rain. Imagine that the next time the world shakes.
