Not to shit on Angry Bird's success or anything, but I'm waiting for the dudes who made it to come up with something new to prove they're more than a one-trick pony.

A one trick pony that refuses to shut up about how mobile phone gaming is the wave of the future and everything.

Yeah, it's pretty silly to get riled up over a game where Americans are badguys when like there's every other war game on the market that shows Americans as good guys. China is merely breaking into an untapped market.

Meh a game's a game. Besides you have to fight against something. It's all in good fun, no sane person is really serious about using what they learned in a video game to kill people.

I kind of want to play that game. Seems like it could be an interesting perspective to play a shooter from.

So this overheating thing, it's real? I told a couple people on FB about it who ps3 regularly. Told them it might be BS though, or la noir related only.

If it's true, and they don't inform consumers, that's twice they didn't (the hack being the first thing). If I didnt come here I wouldn't know about it.

And they got hacked again apparently?

I just feel bad for them at this point. But they have lost my confidence as a consumer. Years ago I stopped buying Sony cameras/etc.... Because of paprierotary (I'm spelling that wrong, ie you have to buy Sony memory cards, tri pods, etc.... Because they dont make their shit universal, or at least to) memory formats, and accessories.

Sony makes good shit, the PS3 is no exception. It is a fantastic media device, and gaming machine. Their tv's are top notch, as are their other consumer electronics. So hopefully someone else can make a baseball game As good as MLB the show soon. But how can I buy a PS4 now? Maybe the not PSP2 depending on price at some point. But, I dunno...

If you're talking about the PS3 having a heating problem then yes, I can tell you for sure that the Slims seem to have a heating problem. It's very bad when playing full HD titles like Armored Core, Sonic unleashed, etc, but it seems to be fine playing small games like Scott pilgrim (played for nearly 2 hours with it only being mildly warm) and Acceleration of Suguri.

It's likely because the PS3 slims don't seem to be vented right. There's no place for the hot air to escape other then a small vent on the rear left side of the console.

I was talking about the patch supposedly causing overheating. If you were too, then it is true but it's only the slims? If you were talking about general overheating, well I figure that no worse than the 360's and I fault to electronics failing due to the fact more countries are requiring lead free solder in consumer electronics.

Oh, well that worries me even more. >_> I'm not sure if the older model PS3s have a heating problem or not since me and my uncle only have PS3 slims and have been dealing with this problem for over a month now since our purchases.

Sorry I can't really say for sure if my heating problem got worse because of the patch or not.

These guys made, what, 15 or so games before making a hit? I mean, we'd all like to say we'd take the high road and not sell out, a la music. Buy you've spent years maybe scraping by, or using most your spare time, to try and break through. You do, you're finally making money, would you not try to cash in? You have to sell out eventually in some way. Dollars make sense.

We'd all like to say we'd like to take the high road, but if I had a hot tub time machine I'd start one of three things.

    Internet porn

    Girls gone wild

    Farmville.

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. Someone here once posted all the games they had made.

I myself tried angry birds, thought it was all luck, and went back to my free crush the castle.

Seeing the iPad version however, and I think the charming visuals are worth a buck (if I had a tablet)

I remember in Tom Clancy's EndWar, being able to pick from the 3 sides of the war, and when I came up against the American Army as Europe, being like, well this is different.

I have no problems at all playing as all sorts of sides in a fictional confrontation. Some could say it makes for a better fictional story, even.

Same here. It allows for some really out of this world stuff. While I never played a lot of the CnC games, I found the story lines simply fascinating with alternate histories. I love tryIng to fix where Germany and japan went wrong in axis and allies (awesome board game) although I wish I could start 10 turns earlier and not attack Russia so it's my tanks, their infantry, and japans navy vs Europe and USA
    >:)

There's actually a couple story ideas I have that touch alternate histories.

But is awesome to see the other side. A strategy game where you're brittan instead of USA during the revolution, trying to hold on.

PS3s shutting themselves off while playing L.A. Noire

    Rockstar Support
    posted this on May-17 18:21

Question: My PS3 turns itself off when I am playing L.A. Noire. What can I do?

Answer: We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models.

Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or "Red Lighting" after having installed 3.61. This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to 2 hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.

At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates.

Someone was asking about this again. It says here "mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models." So there that is. Unless you were looking for another source.

I wouldn't be to worried about it yet as there is not enough information, plus this sort of scare happens with any big game that loads alot off the disc. A similar scare happened with Final fantasy XIII.

Some tech support boffin at Rockstar is probably a bit paranoid after the PSN hack.

So you can now play Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, but from the other point of view?

also, I was wondering if the Angry Birds guys are the dudes who came up with the idea, because I distinctively remember a very similar flash game with catapults, knights and castles. Are they the same devs?

Angry Birds success is more than just luck.

Yeah? What was wrong with all their previous games? What's wrong with all the other games out there just as polished as Angry Birds but seeing no success?

I do not get the hate for Angry Birds.

Its fun. I remember that Crash the Castle or whatever, but Angry Birds with my finger on my phone is 2000 times more fun that Crash the Castle with my mouse. I have no reason why, it just is. Angry Birds fits in my pocket.

It went with bright colors and animals, which is a good design decision if you want to appeal to...well, anyone. I dunno, my girlfriend hates fantasy knights and dragons and stuff. Hates it. No idea why. So dispite Crash the Castle being exactly the same game (on the computer, at least), she'd never give it 2 minutes because it wouldn't interest her.

Angry Birds is successful because it takes a fun physics game that has been around forever, and made it portable and easily accessable to everyone. It also made good design choices by picking things that appeal to anyone. No one dislikes birds. The cartoony art style is also good.

Luck is a factor in anything becoming a smash hit, but its not like it was a fart app or Gameloft clone that just managed to get picked by more people. It deserves its success.

Angry Birds is just a reskinned flash game. I find it funny that's it's such a success. I bet the people who bought it would collapse if someone linked them to kongregate, armorgames, etc.

@CygnusZ: please explain your statement. I'm curious.

Crush the Castle is on iphone also. In fact it came out there before Angry Birds did. I see no difference between angry birds and Gameloft, it's the same level of blatant shameless ripoff, just because they put stupid looking cartoon animals on it doesn't change that fact.

I don't have any hate for it. It's a fine game. I just roll my eyes at people that think it did anything significantly new or different, or that any real lessons can be learned from it. Other than the lesson that you should support lots of different platforms, I guess...but who didn't already know that?

It's the WoW of cell phone games - both of them are disproportionately popular in their genre/platform to the extreme, and their popularity has not shown itself to be duplicatable, despite how often people try. You can mimic the game exactly, you can do your best not to mimic them and be truly original, doesn't matter.

Of course, WoW's advantage is that it came from a long, successful, popular franchise. Blizzard has proven time and time again that they have significant skill at crafting quality games. WoW wasn't just luck, it also came at the exact right time. I suppose you could say Angry Birds came at the right time too, but that's hardly a helpful lesson when that time has passed.

Rovio has yet to prove they're anything more than a one hit wonder.

I think the lesson is that cute, colorful animals > knights?
