Star Wars Galaxies emulator, essentially this group hated the shit SOE did and reversed engineered the server code. You can play it its not totally done because they stopped working on it to completely rewrite it. Its free though and its mostly playable aside from a couple things:
I try not to think too much about the whole "No! We can't do anything useful or helpful ever or we'll instantly turn emo and get red eyes!" thing the Jedi have going.
I have this stack of Dresden Files books here but I just can't summon the motivation to read them. Started on the first one, but I'm thoroughly unimpressed so far.
First book is okay. Not great. Actually I feel the series picks up in book 3 and by book 5 it is rip roaring awesome.
Problem is, book 1 and 2 are important for the story.
I think it depends on how much you enjoy the setting. The plots of the first two books are a smidge slow, but as the first modern fantasy series I had ever read, getting to know the specific world and broader fantasy noir setting created enough other interest to make them great reads for me. Not to mentio self-deprecating narrator is a favorite of mine.

George Lucas originally wanted light saber combat to be like two samurai facing off - lots of "mind combat" and then one single cut to finish the fight. Which made fights between an old aged Jedi and a crippled cyborg in a gimp suit really boring to watch.

Nope they are actually actively posing updates to it. You can play on the Old code (liberator) that's where I play, or you can help test they new code (Core3)
