Nope the number builds up over and over again.
It is a dual reel machine (which means there are two games going on at once on the screen). The bonuses work like this:
* If you get a wild symbol anywhere on a reel on the LEFT game, it transports to the corresponding reel on the right game, turning the entire reel wild. You ideally want this to happen in conjunction with the stacked kirks which pays lots.
* If you get three bonus symbols you get five free games where three or four reels will turn wild randomly between the 10 reels of the two games, it can be good.
* But the addicting part is the shipyard where you build fleets, every 40 cents you bet will get you 5% towards your next ship if a construction symbol lands anywhere on your reels. I bet max so it takes me 5 spins to build two ships. There are 5 different types of ships, 3 starships, and 2 starbases. You really want the star bases because they are worth 5x and 10x each unit during the battle bonus. Every 8 minutes there is a battle bonus, where each ship takes a shot, and whatever ship they shoot has a value which is multiplied by that multiplier. So if you get 3 of the 10x starbases before the bonus, you will shoot with a 30x multiplier with that starbase. There is a 25% chance each ship will survive the counterattack, if it survives twice you keep it for the next bonus and it gets upgraded to a better multiplier.
