and I had such a hard time with the premise, which normally is not an issue for me in sci-fi movies. I just kept waiting for an explanation as to the baby issues and for some reason I could not get over that
See I loved that.
There are no kids anymore, we don't know why, deal with it. I honestly think not addressing it (or the new conception) made the movie stronger.
Normally I would agree with you on that! In sci fi movies generally I prefer when they don't try to come up with an explanation for whatever is happening (because it usually ends up sounding silly), but for CoM it just didn't work for me. I kept wanting an explanation. I think maybe I wasn't engaged with the characters enough, so I had too much time to wonder about the premise?
It is strictly a personal problem, and not necessarily a flaw with the movie itself
Me and my friends have scotch and Die Hard night every Christmas eve.
It is the best.
Blake this is what I had seen by the age of 16:
Beetlejuice
Great Expectations (oh god so many times)
all the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers films
The Sound of Music
a few book adaptations
the Naked Gun movies
Batman and Robin
The Avengers
Godzilla
That was pretty much it, can you think of a more atrocious list? (other than the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers films, don't criticise those)

Adaptation is a film that's just so fucking amazing in concept, if not in execution.
Adaptation is a film written by Charlie Kaufman about Charlie Kaufman writing Adaptation.
man I loved the execution. especially the sharp turn the movie makes after his brother comes in and starts helping him write it.
I ought to watch it again, it just left me a little cold on first view.
I was just skimming down the IMDb top sci fi list, and I discovered The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Hmm. It's hard for me to resist a high-rated time travel film.

I know a lot of people didn't like it, and sure, the story didn't make much sense but I really liked Science of Sleep. I just love Gondry and his practical effects.
Same goes for Be Kind, Rewind.

Jeff Bridges brought his own clothes to The Big Lebowski. Just sat around in his own bathrobe and was The Dude all day.
That's pretty sweet.
On the other hand, Jesus' outfit was donated to a thrift store after they finished.

It reminds us of what's really important at the holidays: Killing Europeans.
I guess you could go with a sampling of a lot of genres?
