On Splinter Cell Double Agent for the PS3..

March is upon us, with the release date of March 27 looming overhead - but still no update of Splinter Cell: Double Agent on the PS3 since around December. Has it been delayed again? I understand its release date is meant to coincide with the release of the PS3 in Europe.

It hasn't really gotten any attention, and for a platform lacking any good games coming out this month, I'm surprised there's no information on it at IGN or GameSpot. They only seem to be covering games coming out months from now, as opposed to a solid game that will be coming out in less than half a month from now.

    Well, you know...I don't know.

I would be genius maybe if it didn't come from Rampage which was made in like the late 80s

You're like a trolling sound-bite machine! Between you and AbsoluteZero we could build a PS3 hatin' beatbox that could quite possibly go back in time and kill Ken Kutaragi's mother.

Now the key here is to turn that into a game that exploits both the power of the SIXAXIS and the Cell Broadband engine - with enough textures to fill a blu-ray disc. This could in turn become the new gold standard for irony. Should such a title be released, my urge to buy a PS3 would rise to the point where I would own two.

A zinger - and on topic! I think I'm done for the day :D

And much more importantly, a game that is actually fun. It will use the SIXAXIS and the Cell, and will up a blu-ray disk, and you can eat people in it, but I have yet to hear anything either way about the game's most important quality.

Question: how big of a difference do you find running games like Carbon and Resistance ect. in HD makes. Enough to buy a HD tv? I already got one as a gift. And noticed an absence of jaggies. But would you say it makes a huge difference?

After seeing the screenshots released of Home, they dont appear to be making it a good community first, as it seems they are more interested in cross-promoting other Sony properties like Casino Royale and Spider-Man 3. So it can go fuck off, it has no purpose on a gaming platform, which is the problem with the PS3 to me in that Sony is still pushing it more as a multimedia center then a gaming system.

And really, the PS3 only has one game announced for it thus far that Im even interested in at all. That being Lair. And Im certainly not buying a PS3 for just that.

Oh we've had plenty of decent "arguments". You, however, enjoy picking a single point and writing a witty line that ignores most of what was said.

For example, a response in the AZ style: "Devil's Advocate? More Devil than Advocate, M I Rite?"

Seriously, we get it. You don't want one. Er. Now. But you will. Or maybe not. Do you both enjoy popping into a thread where folks are discussing their elevated excitement for a system with the sole intent of broadcasting your lack of interest? Couldn't you do that just by... not being here?

It appears to be the latter, because that post couldn't have been made if research was done.

And here's hoping the release dates for Spring/Summer become a little clearer. Specifically, Lair and Heavenly Sword.

Honestly after seeing Home it made me want to get the PS3 more. Alone it may not have but it was kind of a one-two punch. First I watched the video of LBP and then a few minutes later I saw the Home video.

Previously I was of the opinion that even if the PS3 was $300-400 I wouldn't buy it. Now I can say that I would. At the end of this summer I'm gonna have an extra $500 around after upgrading my PC and such...I might just take the plunge if they've released a few more titles I want to play.

Yeah, I want to pick up one up during the summer too, or definately before christmas. I really want to try out Home when it launches, which will probably lead me to pick it up a bit before it actually does.
To me, Home is refreshing. I have a 360 and love Xbox Live, but it's nice to see that the PS3 online will feature something different.

But how long before it becomes a chore to use.

I mean, do you have to 'walk' around the place to talk to friends, to open menus and access achievements.

Or can you just 'warp' to locations to do these things, making the whole experience moot.

To be fair, part of the reason the 360 version of was a disappointing was that it felt incomplete...missing cutscenes to explain the story, and the multiplayer wasn't very robust. This is speculation on my part, but I'd like to think they're taking time to fill in those gaps. For all I know though, they're just having trouble putting it on the ps3 and working.

Not really. I mean look at the last argument.

It was said that for the majority of people there is no reason to buy a PS3 now, as apposed to later. You popped in with a reply saying "theres no reason for you to buy it, but..." and went on to imply that everyone has got some reason to be buying it now.

I pointed out that if that were true, PS3s wouldn't be gathering dust on store shelves.

At which point you cried troll.

Thankfully it seems like you can just warp around too if you want. As cool as walking around and exploring the different areas looks it would be pretty cumbersome if you were unable instantly jump into what you wanted. I thought the mini games like pool and bowling were a good idea too.

But doesnt the inclusion of warping make the whole thing pointless.

Like, why not just have stuff like Miis as avatars but set the whole thing up like a regular menu based chatroom/menu system.

Walking around will be fun for like 2 seconds then you will warp everywhere, like in Oblivion.

I dunno, even though you could eventually get to each different area within the last Zelda game really easily just by warping I usually vouched to just go places by horseback. If Sony can make the different areas interesting enough then walking from place to place could be preferable in some ways. Like, you can go to other peoples "apartments" that they can customize from the ground up in addition to just the media functions.

I suppose it provides the opportunity for a more social experience than, say, Xbox Live. You'll meet players while in the game, sure, but outside of that you're just navigating menus. With Home, however, there's the option of walking about, meeting folks. Maybe there's someone hanging around in the arcade that likes all the games you do, or has a similar library of games in his trophy room or something. Hell, even if you do warp around, you're bound to meet people due to the interface regardless.

    Just throwing thoughts out here.

If you read the Wired interview (on pg 17 of this thread), you'd find out that you've got a Favourites menu in the XMB. You can pretty much save any lobby you want into your bookmarks. So you can start the PS3 up, go into the XMB, select the Lair lobby and it'll take you straight there.

As for Splinter Cell: Double Agent, I'm pretty sure the only new things that are being added are the female spy character and two new multiplayer maps. Personally, I loved Chaos Theory but Double Agent just sucks (and I'm talking about both the last gen and next gen versions). I'll revisit the series with the next game (because you know it'll be ported to the PS3 shortly after the 360 release).

Unfortunately this is where you are horribly wrong.

Second Life is nothing but a glorified chatroom. A chatroom with objects floating around. I've played a lot of SL before and in many instances it's just people standing around talking about all sorts of stupid shit.

The same could be done in any IRC channel.

The problem is, you are more likely to stick around in a chat in SL simply because the environment around you distracts you and kind of calls more attention to the screen from you. Like a casino. In a regular chatroom, as soon as the discussion starts to blow ass you get the fuck out and stop wasting your time.

In SL, people waste time forever.

But there comes a point in Oblivion when you have taken in the scenery, done the sidequests and then start warping everywhere, rendering the rest of the game world meaningless. Its about 10-15 hours into your first playthrough. Even more likely if you ever have to backtrack.

In Home, I'd imagine walking around will be fine to begin with, then once you have a friends list you will all just warp to one place and not move or anything.

Going out and about to meet other players is all well and good assuming Home is even going to work like that, making it essentially an MMO. Has that been confirmed yet, or do the locations in Home only populated by your friends, or the people currently waiting to play a game or whatnot. Or is it like, say, WoW where everyone in the world is on one giant server and can go anywhere and meet anyone else at any time.

Also, keep in mind you probably won't go out and just "meet other players"

Chances are, everyone else will be warping around. And if you do run into someone they might be unresponsive or busy and eventually just *poof* and disappear before your eyes. At best they might say a few words and then leave to hang out with their friends.

Unless they came online specifically to talk, in which case they'd just teleport to some welcome area or some shit anyway.

Think about it, in MMOs do you just fucking say "HI!" to everyone you run into? No! People run past each other in games all the time without saying a word. Same as in real life, and same as in home.

As though it was a full game or something.

Yep. It's free. Plus, even if it does end up as basically warping everywhere, you have the fucking option of walking around, whereas on other online systems you dont.

If anything, just having the option to dick around and play arcade games and walk into other peoples flats is worth the admission fee. Which is nothing. Cause its free.

Ive read what Home is supposed to accomplish, and its nothing Im interested in as a gamer. And really, how can anyone see it as anything more then an advertising gimmick when Sony themselves releases screenshots like these?

Yeah, Like I really want to sit around in a glorified chatroom looking at posters of the latest Sony Pictures movies. Thats not what I buy a gaming console for. I buy them, to play games.

Because chatting in Second Life != chatting in a chat room...

Unfortunately this is where you are horribly wrong.

Second Life is nothing but a glorified chatroom...

    But glorified is the point...

    Of a chatroom??

    Yeah. Worked for Second Life.
If you've ever had a conversation with someone in an MMO it does not feel like you're looking at Mirc.

I personally see it like interesting social experiment. What do you get from chat rooms in most multiplayer UI's? A name, his rank and how much he thinks he's going to kick your ass. With a glorified chatroom you get emotes, the avatar, the apartment. There's more possibility there to make friends, not just one game opponents.

I like how the grammar and spelling are perfect in those pictures. I don't want to know how horrible it will be when it is released.

I appreciate it, actually. I hate marketing schemes that try to target us by spelling everything "4 teh leet gamerz."

Imagine how awesome it would be when Sony eventually release a kind of downloadable service for films, a la XBLM with TV shows and stuff.

And instead of just hitting up a menu, you walk to a cinema in the 'Home' section and purchase a ticket and go into a cinema screen then the movie plays fullscreen like normal. Then when it ends your character can get up and leave, possibly with other people on your friends list who can chat about the movie right after.

Or you know, you could do this in real life too. The more online games and simulations get to real life the more you realise how vastly superior real life is, so you end up going out instead negating the whole point of the features.

Because it shows off that you'll be able to view trailers (perhaps even movies) and the like within it (not to mention videos saved on your HDD)? Later on there'll undoubtably be Universal, Disney and Fox stuff within it. I think you're looking for excuses to hate on Home.

Btw, are scans allowed to be posted? The Ratchet & Clank Future scans were posted a week or so ago and nothing happened, so I was thinking of posting the Uncharted scans from Game Informer.

Yea, but you're kinda missing the point. People probably could work out, go outside, etc, but not everyone wants to do that. Virtual Life is addicting. It doesn't negate life so much as provide an escape for it, nothing wrong with that.

I can go to the Arclight right now, but there's plenty of people who don't know what it is. If something like that was duplicated online, why not check it out? Same thing with E3. If you could walk around the virtual E3, would do you that or actually fly to L.A.? That's the point.

Un - I'm pretty sure scans aren't allowed. But the trailer should suffice for proof of awesome.

Walking around will be fun for like 2 seconds then you will warp everywhere, like in Oblivion.

Because chatting in Second Life != chatting in a chat room. If you don't like chatting then by all means, warp. Just like if you don't like side quests or getting jumped by bandits or takin gin the scenery, you can warp in Oblivion.

Same as in real life, and same as in home.

when i played, i did. most people don't say hi back or do anything. people in mmos need to lighten up.
