    That's the thing though, it is in the dictionary!

    My friend's attitude is that, since the British discarded its use as a past participle of "got" a few hundred years ago, it should pretty much be disregarded as an archaic word and not used in modern english.

    I think that's silly. Gotten generally flows much better in sentences in my opinion.

    Hmm I agree with you then! I suppose its like the word "thus", its archaic but sometimes it works better! Like you say, if it flows and people know what you're on about then I don't see why it shouldn't be used.
