Better save the date folks, according to an article on NPR the end of the world is nigh!
Seeing how everybody got so up in arms about the Mayan Apocalypse (pfft) Its a little sad our norse friends haven't gotten nearly as much attention, especially since its tomorrow. So how are you going to prepare for the end of all life on Earth?
Steel your nerves, dear reader. Ragnarok, the Viking apocalypse, draws near.
According to Norse mythology, the end of times has been brewing for about 100 days. It all started when the wolf son of Loki broke out of prison and the giant Midgard Serpent rose from the sea.
Saturday, Ragnarok will culminate in an epic battle. The pantheon of Norse gods — Thor, Loki, Odin, Freyr, Hermóðr, every last god — will fight, the Earth will fall into the sea, and life as we know it will cease to be.

Basically what happened is some "Viking Experts" (read: people who put on the Jorvik Viking Festival in York) Claim they heard the Gjallerhorn on November 15th.
This horn blowing means that Ragnarok happens in 100 days.
It happens to coincide with the finale of the Jorvik festival.
So basically some dudes wanted some publicity
But cmoooon, have some mutton and mead anyway

Also, if the world's gotta end, I think Ragnarok is probably the way to go, really. At the end of the story, the women of the Aesir and Vanir and the children of the gods survive and usher unto Midgard a new golden age of peace and harmony, and the surviving human beings, a man and a woman sheltered in the hollow of the world tree Yggdrasil named Lif and Lifthrasir, repopulate Midgard! Also, Balder, the fairest of the Aesir, returns from the frozen halls of the dishonored dead in Helheim.
Yeah, basically a new earth will rise after the (very metal) end of the old, and a new supreme God will rule.
Gee, wonder what those monks who transcribed the stuff had in mind.
Anyway, I'm mostly psyched for the ship made of nails.
