The mechanicus ships were the last release for BFG, and were very limited production, IIRC, so if you've got them, hold onto them and have fun fielding them. I'm hoping when I get to Chicago, I'll find more BFG players than I have in Baltimore. :P

Hmm, I'm morally conflicted about getting recasts, on the one hand Games Workshop stopped supporting BFG so I'm not going to be giving them money no matter where I buy BFG ships from... on the other hand it seems little... I dunno, it seems a little odd.

Are resin recasts usually decent quality? I've seen at least one site that has some decent stuff. My brother has some Imperial stuff and I have a decent sized Chaos force, I'm actually interested in maybe getting some Space Marine stuff (since fluff wise I can even use them in my Chaos fleet :P)

Also, I'm definately thinking of buying some models from the Battlegroup Helios dudes, their models look cool and hopefully they'll keep making more in the future

    RE: recast quality
My warp spider casts are fantastic, chunkier one or two piece models have been pretty good. Much like finecast spindly bits or thin connections could be risky.

Hmm, well, I might pick up some Space Marine stuff since it's fairly common in recast. Wish I could find some bits for the Ark Mechanicus since I definately lost one of the little mechanicus symbols for the sides of it. As far as I know it uses the same plastic guns as other Imperial Navy ships though and I've got those, so barring that one I think I still have all the pieces for it. Can't find the guide on how to put it together though :P

I feel like Imperial, Chaos or Space Marine fleets you'll have no trouble finding cheap on ebay. I'm talking new, on sprue, selling for less than the retail sticker still on them says lol.

Is there anywhere besides ebay to get BFG models?

I wonder how much longer I'll have to wait before I can just pay for someone with a 3d printer to make the parts for me :P

Also I feel real dumb because I have an unbuilt Ark Mechanicus which are apparently very rare? And I think it's missing a part (I started making it, one of the little mechanicus symbols you glue on was warped and wouldn't stay glued and I don't think it's in the kit still). Don't know what to do with it but either way I'm probably never going to get another one of those little discs.

There's a lot of really good shapeways designers who do not-Gothic ships that fit right in with the GW versions. Can also get things like Demiurg escorts, chapter specific battle barges and an expanded set of weapons so you can tell the difference between gun batteries or lances that are 60cm rather than 30cm (or if you just wanted plasma weapons rather than macrocannons for your batteries)
Here's a couple - mostly imperials, but a few Tau and chaos out there as well.

They're not that cheap, but Shapeways quite often seems to do 50% off days when they have a spare capacity. You want the frosted ultra-detail versions for ships.

Imperial and chaos (including some that replace the gothic cathedral look with a gothic japanese/chinese look if you're after something a little different)

This talk about BFG made me go look at ebay. Turns out there quite a few ships available, but 90% are in the US which makes shipping cost a pain. Also I should find out how to retrieve my paypal account that I haven't used in forever.

I still regret that I didn't pull the trigger on the light AdMech cruisers back then, but I hesitated because they cost as uch as a regular cruiser and then they were just gone.

edit: And geez, are those AdMech ships expensive now.

Yeah I should finish putting together my Ark Mechanicus, I wish I wasn't missing one of the little circular Mechanicus symbols (also I already have a couple of guns glued in there but they might be upside down. Or the one mechanicus symbol I already have glued on is upside down) I made my unfinished Chaos Cruiser (made it into a Slaughter) though I could have sworn I had a box with two more around somewhere, damned if I can find it though.

In the good news! Department, my models from Battlegroup Helios ship today, unfortunately I live on an east coast state in the US and they're in Australia, so it's going to take a fortnight for it to reach me. In the meantime I guess I'll see about painting that Chaos Cruiser, maybe putting together the Ark Mechanicus (if I can figure out where to glue everything without a guide) and painting my Chaos Space Marine squadron, my Chaos Rhino, my Chaos Predator, and my Chaos Vindicator. Also gluing and painting my unopened box of Chaos Space Marines.

Could you make an impression mold with green stuff off of the symbol you have? It works well enough with stuff like purity seals.

All of that seems theoretically possible, but I have no green stuff and no knowledge of how to do impression molds. So that will probably come later on when I get more familiar with that kind of thing (I don't know if I had secondold symbol if it would actually glue, from what I can recall it came warped and wouldn't glue properly, tried a dozen times and it wouldn't stay stuck)

Say what you will about the aesthetics of the Stormsurge and Ghostkeel but GW have come quite a way with the CAD designed stuff if you compare those two suits to the Riptide. Much better detailing and more complex shapes on the newer stuff. The Riptide looks cobbled together in comparision.

The blurb mentions that they strike directly at the palace, so most likely some kind of infiltrating party / webway raid, which seems fine for the Eldar. Could also be one of the typical Eldar Farseer actions to get the Imperium do something as the Eldar are getting problems with the Orks, too.

Given the state of the webway under the Imperial Palace, it'll be interesting to see what they come up with for motive and method.

All the loyalist Primarchs are either confirmed dead (with corpses in stasis and everything) or missing presumed obliterated.
There are legends, of the sort that happen if you forget to finish a story and let it grow untended, that strive to imply that they are, indeed, still around somewhere, but it's always somewhere far away, no matter where you are and the enemies are always legendary forces no-one credible has actually ever seen, and so forth.

Well I mean Guilliman is still alive and healing

He's just healing SUPER SUPER slowly and he won't necessarily be done healing for thousands of years to come. So he's basically out of the picture.

Those three (and Vulkan) are out there roaming the galaxy, meeting people, getting in adventures like Caine in Kung-Fu. I'm just wondering if any of them were still hanging out when these stories are set. Dorn's out of the picture for sure, it'll be interesting to get at least a semi-fixed date for when the rest of the primarchs left the game.

They didn't show signs of ageing in the millennium or so they were active past achieving physical maturity so probably not?
Besides, given the way Magnus described having conversations with the Emperor about his own ongoing design before he was a vein an embryo in the tank, I reckon they were basically something like daemons of humanity, or the Emperor and that was why the chaos gods were all hot and bothered by them; a semi-mortal was pissing in their pool.

N.B. based on their actions surrounding the heresy and its aftermath, one suspects they none of them ever achieved emotional maturity…

Don't Primarchs lean closer towards the Emperor end of the Emperor - Space Marine spectrum? I'd imagine they age, but crazy slow. Someone like Luther isn't even an Astartes and that dude is still around.

Rowboat Girlyman is in a stasis field which means he isn't getting better or worse. He just is. Primarchs have a lot of things, but power over time isn't one of them I don't think.

EDIT: Speaking of Luther, did anyone mention The Lion? He's possibly still around in some capacity that only crazy-ass Luther and the Jawa things know about.

The first Salamanders novel had a marine that had been around since the Heresy. He wasn't exactly in good shape, but he wasn't dead. I imagine that the primarchs are probably effectively immune to aging.

The (possibly old) fluff for the disappearance of Corax is ridiculously bad.
Nobody knows if Corax received the absolution he prayed for, but a year to the day after he had locked himself into the Ravenspire, he left the tower and the world of Deliverance itself on a course toward the Eye of Terror, never to be seen again. His last recorded words were "never more."

So, I'm putting together my second Chaos Space Marine squad, and I'm not entirely sure how to outfit them. So far what I have constructed is a Chaos Sorcerer with a Power Axe and am mutated claw (I lost his plasma gun arm when I made him and replaced it with a Tyranid Rending Claw, but I don't think they do individual mutations like that anymore? So I guess it would count as daemon weapon or something) I've got a Chaos Dreadnought (which is now a Helbrute? I guess? It's one of the original style metal ones though) I've got a Chaos Predator with a dual-linked Lascannon and a couple of Heavy bolters, a Chaos Rhino with a Combi-Bolter, and a Chaos Vindicator with a combi-bolter.

Troops wise I only have the one squad of Chaos Space Marines at this point, an Aspiring Champion with a Plasma Pistol and a Power Claw, and 8 other Chaos Space Marines with chainswords and bolt pistols (well, one has a power sword, but he's not a champion so I don't think it counts)

I'm thinking that with my next group I'll go long ranged and give them bolters, the only thing I can't decide is if I should try and make them like a heavy weapons squad (so give them a flamer, a plasma gun, a meltagun, and a heavy bolter, or just some combination of those) and I don't know what I should give my Aspiring Champion, I was thinking of making him cheaper points wise (so power sword and bolt pistol instead of plasma pistol and power claw)

And of course, if I make all the specialized guys I can mix and match (like putting the flamer guy in with my close combat squad)

    So, anyway, back to Octauber:
The XV95 preorder goes up tomorrow and we now know that next week sees the release of the new Fire Warrior Team box along with the long-rumoured but slightly misinterpreted "Raven guard vs tau" boxes. Yes, boxes: GW are finally making "race specific" starter sets: a few models, a unique character, and a companion book detailing their side of a narrative set of linked battles. It's about time, yeah?

As for the "new" fire warriors: squads of ten are now the norm apparently and they are now a dual kit with the extremely short-ranged Breacher squads; much like the big pulse gun on the Stormsurge they get stronger the closer you are to the target, but their max range is 15"

As usual GW couldn't make a good decision without tarnishing it some way and unlike the previous campaign boxes the new boxes give almost no discount. You basically get the little booklet they come with for free and that's it.

Breachers and plastic Commander look nice though, Breacher helmets look cool. Crisis look too small and really boxy like before. I feel like giving them rotating hips makes it even more impossible to imagine a pilot inside, there is even less room now.
