these friends we play Catan with came up with a new version of starting the game, where you place the tiles face down at random (ok) and then we place our settlements (without knowing what resource it is or the number on it!) and then we flip the tiles face up and deal the numbers face down at random
it physically hurts me but it's what they like so whatevs

Puppies, I've played another game of Blood Rage but I came in second. My buddy won with a combo of the second tier Loki Valhalla points and a double of the same mission with Odin's Throne
I don't think you should be able to double up on the same mission. Seems lame.
what scrub-tier faildrafter handed him the second one?
be honest
This is sort of the issue with Blood Rage. It is impossible to block someone from getting a combo when you don't see what they draft and it's very likely that they will get a shot at the cards they want before anyone even gets a good picture of what's available. It's entirely possible he picked the first mission from his first hand and the duplicate from his second hand, and nobody could have stopped him.
I don't really like drafting games, honestly. They are really, really luck-driven and also rely on complete card knowledge.
A reasonable point, if you're the sort of dead-inside automaton that yearns for Diplomacy
I was about to say how Diplomacy kind of sucks because the main driver of success or failure is the mere whims of others - which would be fine if it weren't a long-term, high-investment game with player elimination.
I just think drafting from hidden pools to a hidden hand is a bad mechanic and kind of lazy. Come up with a better and more transparent subsystem for player power growth, like Kemet!
i like those games, its interesting trying to win by the whims of others
focusing on the hidden part of it is interesting - i wonder how blood rage would differ if everyone announced their pick before the decks moved

Landshark, just think of it this way: she's playing "ruin Landshark's game," so if you take that away from her, you win THAT game instead.
Show a total lack of investment and don't react to her wild aggression. She will feel frustrated and impotent. You will be unsatisfied with your board game experience but you will have the cold satisfaction of mutually assured emotional destruction, which is the foundation of any good marriage.

I don't get how politics, sports, and religion can be discussed but not anime. Again my age is failing me here.
banned because of a history of bad behavior and bad judgement. Presumably none of the mods wanted to deal with policing the anime mega-thread (and later, show threads) to make sure people weren't being idiots.
Shameful pursuits and utterly stupid opinions

good god why not just huff a load of scotch gaurd and play Fluxx or Muchkin in that case

Some people can't help themselves but to talk about weird stuff (or porn) when there's an omnibus anime thread, so they aren't allowed. Threads about specific shows are generally tolerated as long as they don't get weird. Tube and the Mods' stance on this is pretty clearly articulated and has been repeated several times.
The anime thing in the previous [chat] thread was mostly a joke.

I would have to maybe just sit in the same room and play pokemon on my DS while that was happening.
...unless everyone committed to a 5-10 second turn timer and you played super-speed random Catan; that might be ok, if I were tipsy and I liked the other people.

A long time ago. The anime fans of this board could not make an anime thread without some assholes posting loli porn. So the mods decided to not bother with it and it was banned. Then it simply became a PA board thing that actual anime threads are banned. Even though most of the show specific threads have been consistently fine in my opinion.

If picks were just face up, that would be interesting, but it would really devalue some cards. Especially battle cards. Or it would alter the dynamic, at least; good Loki cards and high battle numbers would discourage people from attacking but would also result in exhaustive calculation of potential combat strength in any scenario (ugh).

Don't try to explain, sounds like it needs to be experienced first hand. Those same reasons are why some workplaces forbid topics like religion or politics.
I don't see how anime of all things elicits such behavior.
If the strongest combos were age by age, it would be easier to block people, but since really strong ones can crop up in the same Age of cards, blocking people is very hard

it's not the topic, it's the people

asked me to tell her things that were literally on my resume
told me she'd recommend me for an interview lol
asked what I'm making now (which she could have looked up in the HR system), told me what they offered the person who turned down the job (56k)
I told her that was too low for me to move, she said she'd talk to the hiring manager and hr person re: comp
weird ass experience

You can always start late, for CS:GO anyway. Marvel at the screaming children and assume they're cheating because no ones reactions time is that fast.
