I don't know if I would call Reichert the dumbest man in DC only because he has so much competition, like Steve King and Louie Gohmert.

Various agencies have a requirement that their civilian employees with clearances provide their tax returns. It's already the norm for average Americans.

he is exactly the kind of professional fraidy-cat the democrats should be absolutely wrecking

he needs to get in a goddamn electoral knife-fight, make him own all the stuff that makes the wishy-washy eastside Bellevue trash uncomfortable, especially ending H1-B visas since half his constituents either got their citizenship off the back of one or employ hundreds of them

Its really curious that his district has consistently gone blue in the presidential for the past 16 years since 1992 but it's been red congressionally since the 80s.

What are the Dems doing there?

Nah, I suspect the Trump administration will end up having to pardon many of its turkeys along the way.

the democratic party in Washington is mostly beholden to Boeing and Microsoft, aside from a handful of progressives (largely sent from Seattle proper, with the notable exception of Frank Chopp, professional keeper of the status quo)

they're all great on social issues but they also do whatever Boeing and Microsoft want

which is why we have no income tax and why they spent 1995-2008 cutting corporate taxes and gutting public education despite controlling both the legislature and the governor's mansion

they don't want progressives in the party because they scare off corporate donors and people who live in Bellevue don't give a fuck about social issues, so the Dems don't have a coherent sales pitch there

He ran basically unopposed last election and still barely won.

If we hadn't run Darcy Burner against him the three times before that his seat would probably be blue by now.

he was thirty points above his closest opponent, how is that "barely"

if dems ever want to take that seat, they need to stop fielding Microsoft washouts and get somebody who can pull the rural vote and actually fight republicans and Reichert specifically on their entirely horseshit claim that they're good for jobs, especially jobs specifically in Washington

The Dem in that race very publicly dropped out before the primary was over. There wasn't a single ad, debate, rally, or GOTV campaign at all.

Which is pathetic, yes, but so is a 60-40 victory when running unopposed. If the Dems would just run somebody they could win here. But they don't, because Democrats.

There's seem to be a recurring pattern where mainstream Dems seem to think that people should be grateful of whatever scraps of progressive policy Corporate America (including the "progressive" Sillicon Valley) allows them to get. Wonder why the party is having a growing anti-establishment faction and depressing problems with turnout.

Anyways, Trump Congress speech is tonight, going to be a mess as usual. Nobody knows what kind of mess, since "anonymous leaks" tend to be useless.

Rubio's Tampa office gets boot from landlord over protest volume:
The owner of Bridgeport Center, a gleaming, nine-story office center at 5201 Kennedy Blvd., notified Rubio's office on Feb. 1 that it will not renew its lease. The reason: The rallies have become too disruptive to the other tenants and a costly expense for the company, said Jude Williams, president of America's Capital Partners.

"A professional office building is not a place for that," Williams said. "I understand their cause, but at the end of the day it was a security concern for us.

Rubio is now faced with the prospect of going without a brick-and-mortar office until a new location can be found. Rubio's annual lease expired in December and he has been renting on a month-to-month basis since then working to negotiate a new agreement, according to his office. The staff needs to leave Suite 530 by Friday and does not have a new location lined up. Negotiations with another building recently fell through.

"We are actively looking for new office space, and our goal is to remain accessible and continue providing prompt and efficient service to all Floridians," Rubio spokeswoman Christina Mandreucci said in an email statement Tuesday. "Until we find a permanent new home in the Tampa Bay area, we will have a representative from our Tampa Bay office available to assist constituents on a daily basis and reachable at 1-866-630-7106."

The statement did not address the reason for the move.

I would not trust these people to run a lemonade stand.

A lemonade stand that's been in the neighborhood for a few generations, that has had many families "own" it in that time, but has for whatever reason been allowed to be run by the rich family that doesn't in live on the same street. This rich family's scion is sooooo distracted by the high school cheerleaders that he's let his best friend do the day-to-day managing of the stand. His friend never liked the neighborhood. Thinks that it's too diverse and should only serve the families whose great-grandparents lived on the street. But that caused problems with the parents in the neighborhood who came down on the rich family, hard. So now the friend has to at least to pretend that he'll serve everyone as he slowly pulls the nails out of the boards and sells that off on the next street over for firewood.

This just feels straight up like a violation of the 1st Amendment. I mean, it's not, since a C&D is sent by a private lawyer, but what the shit? Can a Senator just send C&Ds to people just for wanting him to talk to them? Fucking hell, that's just ridiculous.

GOP members of the relevant committee get to see the health care bill in a secret meeting today. Can't make copies though because god forbid the public know. They're also probably going to end up voting on it without it being scored and it remains unclear if Democrats will get to see it at all before the committee vote. What democracy?
