I'm not trying to just add more random shit, but IF isn't really clicking with me by the 4th episode.
So my GF and I decided to watch Jessica Jones instead. She hasn't seen JJ.
We prefer JJ. It was much easier to get into the characters in JJ than IF. By the 4th episode of IF, all I want to see is Ward grow some balls and leave, and Colleen be awesome. But I just don't have any investment in Danny Bland. Like, before the end of the first episode of JJ, I cared about Jessica and what happens, and what happened to her.
"He has proved capable of draining the power of the Iron Fist (the energies of Shou-Lao) from its wielder by pressing his serpentine tattoo against the wielder's dragon tattoo"
The decision to cut from Danny fighting through the tournament between the second and third fight to some dumb corporate bullshit made me so mad. If you had cut between the first and second fight as well I could get it, but no. It just completely breaks up the flow of the episode and makes no sense. Also the hit with the Iron Fist on the final fight was lame. I watched all of Into the Badlands after finishing Iron Fist and MK's possessed punch hit with the impact the Iron Fist should have.
Not sure how I feel about him getting back into the company that easy, was enjoying the legal struggle. Oh well, guess it had to end eventually.
The 'which one of you hit Joy Meechum' scene made up for it, though.
Not a fan of the cage fighting schtick.
Like 90% of plot points brought up in this fucking series, the cage fighting lasts about two episodes.
Its sorta amazing how this show manages to plow through so many plots and yet it still spends the whole time building towards an actual Iron Fist show that is apparentlys seasons away.

"Oh shit, the Iron Fist show is due tomorrow! We better cram!"
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
This M&M's thing is so goofy and dumb but I kinda love it
It's like they went out of their way to find the silliest way to identify him
So that scene made me bust out laughing. Imagine your Colleen there for a second.
a maybe crazy guy in an asylum have you a bag to deliver to one of the most powerful people in New York business, she dumps it out and starts crying, you look over and it's candy
She specifically says the first time was about the money; her going back after having the money was when she realized it was about beating the shit out of things.
Which.. did that not come up at all during her training?
It also doesn't make sense how Colleen didn't know
about the evil stuff the Hand was doing, even though they make it pretty clear that Bakuto's other followers are involved it. The goons Bakuta sent to drain Colleen's blood were Colleen's own students.

I thought she was going to look after her student.
Guess not. I'm not sure where her plot is going, apart from (speculation)
that she's sending up more death flags than a female love interest in a visual novel.
So, the Hand trained Colleen and set her up with the dojo to recruit new people for the Hand.
What was with the plot point of her having to go fight in cage match
[ed] Which.. did that not come up at all during her training?
re: money
Her student, the one with the medical training? It sounds like they pulled strings to get her accepted, but did the Hand pay for her college entirely? That seems pretty overt, which is counter to what I perceive of the Hand's approach.
I don't see it as a given that the Hand / Bakuto were the one(s) who requested that Colleen open a dojo. She may have simply told someone that, hey, opening a dojo is really important to me and they said, "go for it". With or without a stipulation that she funnel promising students back to them.
that said ...
Maybe asking for money feels too much like a handout? She turned down Danny's offer of rent, also. She needs the money, but she seems to want to earn it.
Fighting*, at least the first time, could be seen as the lesser of two evils.
Glancing at the wiki, bushido apparently stresses frugality. If that adds anything.
all speculation. I don't recall anything explicit from the text.
re: fighting
* I wouldn't think there's a lot of opportunity to really just wail on someone during training. And hitting a punching bag or training dummy isn't quite the same thing. YMMV.

I don't think the show started off well, but it began to show promise at about the 2/3 mark and then did a swan dive into the concrete for it's finale.
Absolutely the weakest Marvel show thus far and almost completely devoid of it's own style. I was amused by Netflix's recommendation to watch Into The Badlands during the last episode's credits. As if to say "hey, you know what you should have watched instead?"
Not the worst thing I've watched on Netflix (not by a large margin) but I do kinda feel like I wasted my time.
Finished the third episode, but here are my thoughts. I will definitely update when I finish it.
The writing of the show has given me a mental image of two or three mid-teenaged male writers who have a small handful of like manga and an encyclopedia, and no internet access but are incredibly intrigued by "Asian" things. Who would consider LeAnn Chin a good Chinese restaurant because the Orange Chicken tastes good, unaware of a better name to call things other than "Creme Cheese Puffs". Who think of "Asian" as someone from only China or Japan, heavily conflating the two, with limited research done.
"Hey, you know what would be like totally cool? What if she taught her students to attack her randomly in the streets so she could tell them how bad they are at being ninjas!"
"Wow that would be like the coolest! She could show them how much they suck because she's so awesome! But not as awesome as Danny is!"
"And then she can talk about how she lives by this bush-eye-doh code or whatever!"
"Yeah, that's the raddest!"
When Danny isn't being a fortune cookie, he's definitely got the teenage angst.
And with the millions or billions of dollars, being orphaned without parents, I kinda expect him to turn into Batman. That seems like it would be a better story than this.
The whole thing feels like there was just limited research done in general. Compare to JJ or LC, which definitely has stronger writing and themes by far.
I moved from one state to another when I was 9, and the change was drastic. I would think someone who lived in another place for even longer than I did in that state would be much more assimilated, and I was very assimilated.
I want Danny to be more curious about the current world than he seems to be.
I've got so many questions that I know won't be answered, like:
How does he charge a 17 year old iPod in another dimension? Why does he want to get control of the company by the third episode, especially when nothing in his character so far has demonstrated that he has any desire to do that? Was that just because they asked him to change his name, and his name is on the corporation? Wouldn't it be easier for him to go back and negotiate to keep his name? Wouldn't the name have been changed by now? A lot of bighuge corporations have had their names changed, even if minutely. Like General Electric to GE, for a quick example.
How can there be the appearance of a power struggle if the long-lost heir returns, but signs away his ownership of the company right away? Why did the receptionist not tell Danny that Harald had been dead for years instead of creating all the unnecessary drama? Why does Ward keep sending his obviously-proven idiot henchmen to fight Danny at the beginning when he could put a contract out on any number of in-universe organizations to kill him? Why does Danny best the head guard three times in a row, then suddenly have problems in a room with boxes?
Chinatown seemed to only have like a couple of dozen people around during, what I assume is, the Chinese New Year. That certainly doesn't seem right at all. What about the hawk/eagle that keeps appearing? Does that mean anything? It only shows up when necessary, I guess. He certainly seems like a dick to the one other homeless guy who was pretty good to him. Why did he say they were better than others? Was the homeless guy supposed to be some kind of secret spirit guide or something to help him? Why did he OD on heroin, and not use an arm band? Why did he OD on heroin when there was no indication prior that he was even a junky? Like, he just died. I didn't even get to know him to care that he ODd, or see why Danny cared based on interacting with him twice.
Nods to the other shows at this point seems like they would be a good idea, like "Have you heard about the goings-on in Harlem? That's messed up!" or "You heard about that guy in Hell's Kitchen?" So far, nothing indicates that. LC had a few nods like that to the others, and I actually do expect that nodding to the others in the same city in the same fucking universe that are happening within a reasonable amount of time around each other
Also, so far, my gf and I both only seem to like Colleen.
Realistically she wouldn't play much of a part in the series because she rightly wants nothing to do with him, but for TV I get that it wouldn't be very compelling.
You got a lot of really good points, but getting mad at white people for calling culturally appropriated bar food cream cheese puffs instead of crab rangoons is the funniest shit; in the greater context of this show/thread.
So the first issue of the new Iron Fist book came out this week
It was pretty good! Not amazing, but the first arc is all about a magic kung fu tournament on a hidden island so Danny can get his powers back so it should be a fun ride.
Not sure it was worth killing the amazing Power Man and Iron Fist for it though.

I'll have you know I was moderately disappointed not to have Liam Cunningham turn up after reading "Davos" earlier in the thread.

I don't know this!
These Marvel shows pillage Wire cast members like nobody's business, I thought they might've dipped into Game of Thrones now

And this guy certainly isn't any version of Danny Rand I've read in the comics. Maybe this is the living weapon version? I thought that book was bad
So that scene made me bust out laughing. Imagine your Colleen there for a second.
This is basically what happened. The whole thing sounds like a last-minute mess.
