They show the matches here. I checked one out, and it was strange.

I mean, all the rules and appearances of football were in place. They had a ball, and 22 guys. But, they had apparently chosen these players from the ranks of the international union of hairdressers and figure skaters, instead of getting some footballers.

Man, they hired the wrong guy.

If they wanted to get people to watch soccer, they need to hire that spanish anouncer that just screams GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

I have to watch the Spanish channel over espn to hear him.

Alright, show of hands: who even knew who the fuck David Beckham was until that Keira Knightly soccer movie came out?
I didn't know who he was.
That was a pretty good movie, actually.
That Indian chick was really cute.
She deserved way better than to end up on E.R. with godamned Uncle Jesse.
Seriously, E.R. and daytime talkshows are like retirement homes for careers in Hollywood.
    Fuck, I'm tired.

Why does everyone assume that all those seats were sold out for Beckham?

I mean, they were playing fuckin' CHELSEA. I'm just glad the Galaxy actually put up a fight the way they've been playing.

Granted, a couple other away games for the Galaxy are already sold out as well.

I'm trying to get tickets to the D.C. United/Galaxy game.

I enjoy soccer on tv because I understand the nuances of the game. But I'm pretty sure anyone can enjoy a live match, especially with 60,000 other people there.

Also, hurf durf MLS dern't have the caliber of playerz EPL has.

man people all raggin on beckham

beckham is, without doubt, the best passer of a football of the lats 10 years. No doubt about that. He never claimed to be a pacey player, or the most technically gifted. But he does what he does the best. Crossing, passing and dead ball play.

as for him moving to LA. Good on him. Any 30+ year old footballler who is offered that kind of money, with gaurunteed 1st team football for the rest of your career, and the option of improving the sport and furthering your other business interests (see: beckhams soccer schools), would take it in a heartbeat.

Yes he could have gone back to england or such. But why would he? Football is his career. He has played with the best teams in Europe. Time for a change. Good on him.

Is this some kind of joke? Chelsea are notoriously terrible at selling their tickets, both in friendlies, and even at big games. They certainly don't prompt $2000 ticket scalping.

well I mean, compare it to last year when the MLS All-Stars played Chelsea and the game didn't even sell out.

also, if you've been in the Los Angeles area for the past like two months, all you hear about is the Beckham hype. it's just insane.

also factor in that David Beckham is the most bankable footballer in the world (that, or he's second to Ronaldinho, I can't remember), and you can kind of understand that this game would be a big deal to a lot of people that don't actually have an initial interest in the game.

my favorite part of the game was when they interview Drew Carey during the game. apparently he's been a huge LA Galaxy fan for like 3 or 4 years, and every like 15 seconds he kept getting distracted by the game. I mean, it was really just cool to see a celebrity there that was actually there to see some soccer.
