Nope, that's Firebird next to Falcon. Pretty sure Firestar isn't on that picture at all... are you guys sure she was an Avenger? All I can remember is her being a New Warrior.

Edit: Ok Wiki says she joined the Avengers after the New Warriors, which was after I stopped reading as a kid.

Firestar wouldn't be on the picture, I guess, since she didn't join til Issue 7 of that run.

    edit: wait, it is firestar

I think Thunderstrike was deaders at that point.

    The character not the comic.

The comic was always dead to me.

I actually liked Thunderstrike back in the day.

I thought it was pretty interesting how many Marvel 'clone-heroes' popped up with their own series by the '90s. Thunderstrike, War Machine, Scarlet Spider, Fantastic Force...

War Machine goes back to the late 70s. Also, what about Force Works.

Jim Rhodes yes. Not his own heroic identity though. And Force Works was pretty much a copy of West-Coast Avengers, them being a copy of the proper Avengers themselves.

Thunderstrike was selling more than Thor for a time.

edit: legend was it sold more than Avengers and Thor combined, which some quick research proves wrong at Comic Book Urban Legends.

I am honestly surprised that you found three characters that you didn't like there. After all, you were upset when Jack T. Chance got killed.

Well, that's because Jack T. Chance is fucking awesome, and his death was really, really lame. His first appearance, and subsequent appearance where he fought Lobo, were like something out of a post-apocalyptic 2000 A.D. story, with a Green Lantern ring thrown in to root it to the DCU. He brought something unique and interesting to the GLC as a Lantern that relied on guns almost as much the ring, his ring only functioned on the backwoods Hellhole of a world he patrolled, and he wore a bitchin' duster.

Then, Johns offhandedly killed him by having him get impaled by a Parallax-controlled Kyle Rayner in a total throwaway scene, when A) any number of nameless Lanterns would have served just as well and B) Chance had the ability to regenerate. Plus, right before killing him, Johns gave him a few panels of tragic backstory which, seemed to miss the point of the character.

To me, it was like if he'd killed Rot Lop Fan, the F-Sharp Bell. Sure he's only had one appearance, and no one's really doing anything with him, but why get rid of him when you can instead use any random redshirt and still have the exact same scene?

Honestly though, I'm the kind of guy who doesn't really hate any character. Even if I don't particularly see the point of Silverclaw, Rage, or Starfox, I'd rather have them off in limbo than see them killed pointlessly. That way, if there's some writer out there who does have a good idea for one of them, they'll still be available for use.

Okay, so maybe Carol isn't really dead? July sees the "War of Marvels" in the Ms. Marvel title. Other speculation is that Ultra-Girl will take on the Ms. Marvel moniker and fight Moonstone. Either way, I dropped the title once Moonstone became the "official" Ms. Marvel. I just hope this explains why Carol is still active with the NA.

When he dies, I hope they write "Worst Affirmative Action Hire, EVER" on his grave. His corpse should be trolled.

It could be Ultragirl, who's upset about getting her costume taken away. That's all I can really think of that's not Carol coming back in record time. Maybe Songbird using her voice to alter perception, or a shape changer? I dunno.

Captain America springs to mind. Ms Marvel is clearly dead, so she's in. Thunderstrike (they need to revive his ass pronto)

Going through Wiki, Swordsman (Jacques Duquesne), Human Torch (Jim Hammond), Dr Druid (Anthony Ludgate Druid), Original Captain Marvel (honorary posthumous member, i think that counts), Whizzer, Deathcry and Masque (all honorary members).
