I really enjoyed the first one (though I found it a lot more satisfying to play it more like a crazy first-person kung-fu game and forgo gunplay whenever possible)

I also hated the 'man here are some team members beside you OH NOW THEY"RE ALL GONE AND DEAD too bad you didn't get a chance to save them' plot structure.
The multiplayer in the first F.E.A.R. was a lot of fun. Just old school style, fast-paced deathmatch. I dug it.
The single-player kinda sucked, though.

I enjoyed the single player of the first game(shoot, it's half of the reason I got a new PC), but the demo gameplay didn't feel as fluid as the original's.

I loved the first one, solely for the combat which I found to be very satisfying. They did a good job of slow-mo and setting up excellent places to use it. The biggest problem was the environments were very samey, so when you weren't engaging in awesome firefights it felt very, very dull.
Selleck, after years of little interest, was cast as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. and as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark in the same year. Magnum, P.I. producers would not release the actor and he had to pass on the film role, which then went to Harrison Ford. The decision of choosing the role of Indiana Jones vs. Magnum actually haunted him so much that before making the decision, he consulted his best friend on what to do. Together they came to the conclusion that honoring the contract with Universal Studios was the honorable thing to do.
I am way too cautious in these games and it totally wrecks them. I'll run back to a corner and plink away at whatever bosses are around using the shittiest ammo because what if something worse comes and i don't have anything good to deal with them?

Ok, the scares are fucking awesome and are pretty fucking well done in terms of timing and teases. The reason this new guy gets slow-mo abilities is explained in game and holy shit does your team get fucked up slowly.
Also Jankowski's younger brother is in your team at the beginning.
The environments have improved 100-fold with the glorious new graphics engine and an equally superb physics engine. Slow-mo got an improvement of sorts: Your enemies are sort of 'lit up' when in slow-mo and everything becomes super saturated in an almost comic style way. The controls are a little...weird (360 version) but nice and loose. The shotgun is no longer the end-all-be-all of the first game. Expect to be using all of your weapons.
Speaking of weapons, your two very trusty fists join you on this sequel, albeit a bit dumbed down. You can do the slide kick, the roundhouse kick, the rifle butt, and more!
Story wise...I'm not entirely sure what the fuck, though the game does an alright job of making it so you don't have to play the first game to understand.
Alma is back though, and holy god is she pissed! I have seen child Alma about 3 times... I've seen horribly disfigured naked teenage Alma about 303048235720587 times in the corner of my eye. The scares aren't announced by static from *UNKNOWN ORIGIN* like in the first game. Sometimes your hud will 'glitch' for a split second and your torch may flicker a bit, though a scare can literally come out of fucking nowhere.
So far? I like it. The combat is fun and crazy yet still tactical like in the first game, and the story does a good job of pacing itself alongside the combat.
are you like the Abe Vigoda lifewatch guys only instead of knowing whether or not Abe Vigoda is still alive you instead are always tracking Tom Selleck?

I wish.
My parents just watch the show.
I saw some of it when I was at their place.
I was all, hey look! That's Tom Selleck, he like James Caan really has dropped his standards.

Like Ted Danson.
His hair is white as a sheet but he often dies it for movies and tv!
