not that i have any interest in child porn (i totally do), but restricting items like drawn child porn crosses an imaginary boundary in my mind where we go from laws that exist to protect people to laws that exist solely to legislate morality, which i'm against at a very fundamental level.

well, apparently what we did to him, understandably, really fucked him up but given his situation
he didn't exactly go to the cops about it
instead, he got massively depressed
dropped out of school, went on welfare for a while
became pretty suicidal before his mom and his sister stepped in and cajoled him into going to a therapist and shit
through which he came to terms with both what was done to him, and what he did to her
he actually looked her up and tried to make amends to her
she didn't want anything to do with him, but accepted his apology and did acknowledge that he legitimately felt bad about it
he's past most of that now (for the record, nothing "scarred black" or anything. the only lingering scars he had were mental ones) and he finished his GED and now is in trade school to become an electrician
he accepted my apology, understood why i did what i did at the time, and while he told me he still blames us for fucking up a chunk of his life, considering what he did he can't really claim to be on some kind of moral high ground
so it's a giant mess of an ugly bit of history that is now hopefully behind all the people involved
i've spent a lot of the last year finding people i've wrong and trying to make amends and such
also probably gonna look for bullets to shoot out of the gun tomorrow

and that it's a certain subset of topics that get recycled more than others
but did you ever stop to think that these topics appear more than others on the forums because these are discussion-worthy topics that are hard to have in person? I mean, imagine how awkward this would get if you were with a group of friends trying to have a real talk about this
it's easier to do online, so when the topics are raised people just discuss them because they DO have an opinion and the forum offers a comfortable medium through which to express it
