They've been doing this shit for years. North Korea kidnaps someone or fires a rocket or does some other crazy shit and the West and a few Asian powers play along, give them aid, and tacitly approve of Dear Leader and his insane government doing completely unacceptable things to foreign countries (as well as their own people).
The North Korean government is scum and how we're treating them currently isn't exactly making things any better.
Yeah, border and DMZ shenanigans isn't new to NK. My father was stationed over there during this incident. The most expensive tree trimming operation in US history.

Oh, goddamn. That retarded bullshit.
What the fuck is wrong with that country? People get murdered for landscaping over there.
Pak and his subordinates appeared to observe the trimming without concern for approximately 15 minutes, until he abruptly told the UNC to cease the activity stating the tree could not be trimmed "because Kim Il sung personally planted it and nourished it and it’s growing under this supervision." Capt. Bonifas ordered the detail to continue, and turned his back on "Lt. Bulldog". While this verbal communication is undocumented, it seems plausible, in that Kim Il Sung was often portrayed by the North Korean Communist Party propagandists as being responsible for almost everything in North Korea.
Pak Chul again demanded that the tree trimming stop, and when Capt. Bonifas again turned his back on him, Pak Chul removed his watch, carefully wrapped it in a handkerchief, placed it in his pocket, and then shouted "Kill them!" as he swung a karate chop to the back of Capt. Bonifas' neck.

Oh come on
In addition, a 64-man ROK special forces company accompanied them, armed with clubs and trained in Tae Kwon Do, supposedly without firearms. However, once they parked their trucks near the Bridge of No Return, they started throwing out the sandbags that lined the truck bottoms, and handing out M-16 rifles and M-79 grenade launchers that had been concealed below. Several of the special forces men also had Claymore mines strapped to their chests with the firing mechanism in their hands, and were shouting at the North Koreans to cross the bridge.

Yeah, this incident was crazy. Since the DMZ is supposed to be gun-free (hence demiliterized), they grabbed the tree trimming axes and...well. The way my Dad tells it as soon as it happened they mobilized everyone, I mean EVERYONE. He was in Seoul, a good distance from the DMZ, everyone everywhere in Korea was sent to a battle-ready station, for something like a week straight. The US seriously thought this was the start of war, a blatent aggressive act toward US soldiers.
If you have the time, read that whole wiki article. Its a good read, and amazing to me that something like that gets buried in history.

We really aught to dig some tunnels around north korea and drop a lightmass bomb or something in
sink that shithole
The problem with that is a large majority, and we're talking probably 95%, of the people there either don't want to be there or are so immersed in propaganda that they have no idea at all about the world outside of their own villages.
We just need to take out Kim Jong Il and everyone around him.

except there'll always be some general willing to step into power, or what-have-you. And China won't let us mess with NK for the same reason we'd never let anybody occupy Canada. Short of an asteroid cratering the region, there's no way to deal with NK without making things worse in the long run
North korea is going to end up doing some thing stupid, insane, and tragic and everyone will just be like oh no how could we have prevented this abloo bloo

Seriously though, this is terrible news. I hope this pushes the UN to finally address North Korea and do something about all of this.
