I don't remember that turtle looking fellow in the prison (part 2). Is he recruitable?

The answer to your question is here:
Yes, he is recruitable. And even if you don't use the name change code, you get to name him. But by default, he is Kiwi.
I'm working on part 4 right now. Sorry it didn't go up sooner, but real life duties called and resulted in me crashing for a nap. I discovered that I was increasing the file size of each image by shrinking them down in size and making them jpgs (a foolish assumption on my part), so from now on everything is png, smaller in file size, but bigger in dimensions (which won't be a problem).

Let's Play Part 4
And we're off!
Bugger! I knew it! Oh no, I am so weak! Protect me from the monsters!
Charge!
So, certain terrains will obstruct your movement. They also provide a defense bonus (that's what "Land Effect" is, kids!)
Uh, there's a big bat heading this way.
This battle has no danger in it, so charging through the forest ends up being faster.
HUGE BAT.
Oh that's not so bad.
Hawel's house seems to be a bit further away than "just outside" Yeel.
Victory!
Cool!
Victory is ours!
Sir... you're alive! It's no use running after them...
They were Galam soldiers. They demanded my notes on Ground Seal. They suddenly snatched at them, and... (cough)...
He's Henroid from Granseal. He said that the Ground Seal has opened. And a serious disaster took place! He came to see you for more information.
Calm down, sir. Why are you so excited?
That tower is the sacred seal that confines a terrible devil. Two jewels... (cough)... were... installed to... Stop talking, or you'll die.
I'm going to seal the tower. It's Sir Hawel's last wish. Henroid, please! His wish is related to your mission, right? Can you go with me and seal the tower?
Just to give recognition; at this moment a short tune, the most somber I've heard in any game ever, plays here.
Healing Drops are a pretty potent healing item, this will be held onto for a while.
Adus (Kazin) is a utility kind of character. Blaze is his one out-and-out damage spell. He learns dispel (a silence spell) and muddle (a confuse spell), and also learns desoul - the only character to learn it. If you promote him to Sorcerer instead of Wizard though, he loses all his spells in order to learn those. Not a good tradeoff in this case.
Why did you kill Sir Hawel? How could you be so mean? Ummm.... Answer me! Henroid, we must defeat them so we can learn the truth!
Although still not a dangerous fight, this gives you a good exercise in choosing paths to move on.
Death to Galam's soldiers!
Looks like you're going to need some help with that!
I seem to be a one-trick pony to this group.
Ranged attacks! How insidius!
Rent has himself a lengthy exchange.
Rapidly blinking things are hard to catch, what can I say. In this case, a bonfire.
We're cleared up here, charge south my warriors! Just like when we used to play soldiers!
Hey, I've gotta do something in this fight.
Hey, you can't do that!
You can't do that either!
Sorry, I don't have magic that wakes people up. I could always try blaze.
Hey wait, I thought you were joking?
Oh, the bat.
Damage doesn't wake people either.
I won't lie, I just wanted to show off.
Aren't you glad I'm around now, Adus? Mr. "Who the hell is Sollah."
Huhwha?
Rent is ahead of the curve a bit.
Victory is ours! Take that Galam, beaten by a bunch of kids!
Wh- KAPOW!
This isn't the first time his boasting has gotten us in trouble.
But Sollah can't wave her hand and steal something's soul. Everyone has different strengths. :P
Besides, Karna > Sarah anyway.

References to forumers brings a degree of humanity and humour to these one dimensional pixelized characters, and i'm enjoying it. The possibilities for lols are endless.
The only reason I ever advanced at all in Shining in the Darkness, is that we got our copy directly from another kid. Who included all his many, many pages of maps.
I'm already feeling sorry for whoever has their names applied to the three characters nobody ever picks to take with them, later on.
Man, this thread went in a strange direction really quickly.

I actually kind of like the first game more, because random stat bumps could lead to different teams for each person in the endgame. The endgame in this one though is all about Sheela (she's the monk who learns boost, right?) 49 xp at the start of each fight to buff my whole team? Yes, please.

Sheela learns Boost, yeah, but Karna is the better Master Monk.
She learns boost, too, and also comes in unpromoted. Which means massive, massive stats for her by the time you promote her at level 40 (only chumps promote at 20), plus the massive, massive Master Monk stats you can get. That, plus Boost means you can get her to Promote at 40 --> Master Monk 99 in one battle. She tears shit apart after that (Well, she tears shit apart long before that, obviously, but you know what I mean).
Sheela's okay, though. The already promoted characters suffer in general from lower stats, but even a mediocre Master Monk is better than most other characters.

Chester (Rent) is... I mean he's alright. He can be outdone though.
I'm more than likely to keep people in that I like though, rather than really go for a power-team (well, unless the voting that'll show up later in the game screws me over with you guys giving me all the archers or whatever).
I do feel kind of bad for the people that end up as shitty characters.
Of course, with the amount of crap I gave you, I'll probably end up as Kiwi or something.
I always use Kiwi the entire game. His promotion is amazing! Just keep him away from magic users...
Yeah, I'm playing through this now, too, and I just got Kiwi. I used him in a couple battles and noticed that his defense was pretty good, until he got hit with an ice attack from a witch. He went down pretty hard.

It's unfortunate that such an awesome spoiler becomes apparent with the name change code, but what can you do. It's just something to look forward to.

I somehow ended up firing up Shining in the Darkness instead.
Graph paper.
Everywhere.
Can you set things on fire? No? DIDN'T THINK SO.
Hmm, I think healing tends to be more useful, at least in the long run
Nobody asked you!
You can't buy "set this dude on fire" items.

I take it the image didn't load from the source. FINE, CHECK AGAIN.

To me
Ooooh! SELF BURN!
Also, if I am excellent at one thing, it's being mediocre wait what?
Edit- Wow this was excellent Henroid, imma fire up a sig out of one of them screenshots. Least I could do since you so nicely put me in your vidjagame
Although I really don't know about being a centaur... o_O
Also you really have no idea how tempting it was to go after the "hung like a horse" joke right there. It was so tempting
