Is there racism against Americans for Hiroshima and Nagasaki or is it all coolsville?
Also I never realized the hatred some Asians particularly Chinese had against the Japanese, man you call a Chinese guy a Japanese and that's a ticket to headchop town.
Well, YEAH. The Japanese only killed a giant chunk of our elder generation. My mother's dad had no surviving siblings thanks to the war. Same goes for my dad's dad. You guys HAVE heard of the World War II that took place over on our side of the pond, right?
300,000 dead in a week at the Rape of Nanjing. Not a lot of fun.
I don't hate the Japanese but I do not like the Japanese gov't's refusal to acknowledge that Nanjing ever happened.
I do understand most people's fascination with Japanese culture... I mean it's so fucking OUT THERE you can't help but want to know more about it.
Most of the time I lose my cool when some fucking weeaboo points at a character and says "HEY LOOK IT'S JAPANESE" and correct ME and tell me I'm WRONG when I tell THEM it's also CHINESE.
There are some politicians, even cabinet members I believe, who denied the massacre but it's hardly "the government." I grant that a lot of Japanese politicians like to fudge the numbers but the Foreign Ministry's official position is that it's a fact of history. A lot of the denial comes from America trying to buddy up with Japan post-war. We needed a non-commy friend in East Asia and were in a spot to bitch Japan around. Well, you can't be friends with somebody you hate, so you sweep it under the rug. Same thing we did with unit 731 to get their information on biological and chemical weapons.
I agree that the Japanese military did some awful things during the war, but you're using some pretty blanket statements.

I wasn't going to go into D&D-style specifics when the person I'm addressing doesn't even know the war even happened, let alone which parties in the Japanese government do what.
They don't DENY the massacre. They refuse to acknowledge it happened. To this day it is not included in Japanese textbooks.
Seriously though. Visiting that fucking shrine? How is that sweeping shit under the rug? Fuck Koizumi.
Also I'm talking from the Chinese perspective. I didn't even address what the Japanese government thinks about their relations with the US, which seems to be what your post is referencing.
How would the Japanese denying that they murdered the Chinese by the thousands make them better friends with us? What are you talking about?
And yes, the Japanese government does act as though that things like Nanking never happened. These events aren't even in their school books. They don't deny it so much as they just pretend that it never happened and that WWII was some big event where everyone pretends to be sketchy on the details.
And getting info from Unit 731 wasn't some evil scheme by the US government. It made sense. In fact, it was probably more morally just to take the info they logged in (no pun intended*) than to let it go to waste. I'm not sure if that was your point, but the evil conspiracy logic always irks me.
You know what let me comment on this. I don't usually go into these sort of debates but I can't let this one slide.
First of all let me say that all nations have thier hands bloodied. All nations regardless of past, present or future.
Now with this whole Japan apologizing for what it did. Bull. China is the last, LAST, country to cry, whine, tear thier hair out and such over something that happened within the 30's to 40's. They are there with other still proceuting the Uyghur in Eastern China trying to eliminate thier culture. They are still in Tibet destorying thier religion and culture, they are still in Inner Mongolia destorying thier culture. They have in thier past and still doing persecuited many more cultures and peoples than I have ever seen happening.
Fine the Chinese want thier apology they should get it, but before they should free tibet and apologize, apologize for the Uyghur people and let them live, apologize for the Inner Mongolians and let them live. Then they can get thier historical apology.
War is bad for both parties and they always have grevinces for both sides, but the Chinese stance of "Oh look at us" is purely so they can win points from my prospective. I would even say the Chinese do have more bloodied hands than the Japanese.
I am not attacking anyone, nor would I do so, I am only attacking the stance.
Uh, dude, I don't want to imply I'm arguing with your stance, because it's not something I'm particularly knowledgeable on. But I think if you're going to make a serious post about a moderately complicated and in-depth topic, you should proof-read it. Especially looking out for the word "their".
By the way, glad you had a good trip. I still can't believe you're not an alt but this is a surprisingly good thread (or at least the first 3 pages I've read are).
So have we established if its ok for other asians to hate japanese people? Because my grandpappies sure did hate themselves some japanese back in the day. Could be from being POWs though.
That doesn't work, K_A. China's actions under their communist regime in no way mitigates the wrong doings Japan has committed. What makes this a particularly nasty issue is Japan not only committed those acts, they deny they ever occurred. In effect, mainstream Japan is not sorry -- they feel they did nothing wrong. They feel the massacre of a city was not wrong. That's what makes this a problem.

I know chinese and koreans don't like japanese for what they did.
Man, Japanese pizza freaks me out though. Even at a Domino's, its all octopus and squid and corn and mayo and junk. Its impossible for them to make just a pizza with pepperoni.
Damn I blew a fortune on sushi last night but it was totally worth it.
Japanese run the fish game. I'm not so sure about top cuisine overall (most of their hot dishes I find to be mundane and tasteless), but they have perfected the art of serving fish.

Good Sushi is so expensive, but it's worth every cent.
Man, I heard that they even put vinegar on their fries over there.
I love vinegar, I think its my favorite condiment. My girlfriend is portugese and her dad puts vinegar in EVERYTHING. They make this soup that just has some greens and portugese sausage in it, and if you put a little vinegar in it I can eat like 5 bowls.

Big fat chips, deep fried in Beef dripping, fluffy on the inside, and crunchy on the outside, doused in salt and vinnegar.

Its the best thing in the world.
OH MAN. That sounds so fucking good right now. Doesn't help that its 10:30am here and I'm already starting to get hungry for lunch.
What we need is a shop that'll let you order stir fried beef with lemon grass, a bit of yellowtail and sweet shrimp sashimi, edamame as the appetizer, with a bit of green tea ice cream for dessert...

you're not doing very well here.

No because you will have to watch the movie (if it ever comes out) to know what and how the Death Gun looks.
But this isn't D&D. Just making a point.
And thank fucking god for that.
I know chinese and koreans don't like japanese for what they did.
Especially you.
Admit it.

It's awesome.

I stay away from Tom Thumb and Albertson's deli sushi, though -- that's a little dodgy in my opinion.
But I have to support Thai food.
Thai food is awesome. Go eat Thai food.
made me chortle.

And of course the ubiquitous egg roll...
Yes.
My dad spent several years in Thailand in his youth and thus, learned to make awesome Thai food.
I mean, aside from the crippling retardation.
