I'm not advocating execution for petty criminals or even murderers, but people who have shown the inability to be rehabilitated and continue to break out of imprisonment to kill some more.
In the video game Batman universe at least. I can't speak to the cartoon but it sure SEEMED Joker was less a mass murderer then. Probably because it was a cartoon.
well i mean there really arent that many villians in the batman universe aside from joker and maybe riddler who are capable of consistently breaking themselves out of arkham without help
Why didn't Batman just make his OWN prison for The Joker?
It wouldn't be any more insane or amoral than everything else Batman does.

Also, the fact that Europeans use the terms "credit cards" and "charge cards" to basically mean the reverse of what North Americans use the terms to mean, rendering a lot of cross-oceanic credit card discussion needlessly confusing.
Really?
My understanding is: Credit cards build a balance that incurs interest, that must be paid off (or at least contributed towards) on a monthly basis; Debit cards take the money out of your bank account immediately (for a given value of "immediately", within 24 hours at least).
Americans would say that charge and credit are synonyms for a service that builds credit while withdrawing directly is a debit or a checking card. Checking card is a Visa invention as far as I know, I've never had one. All my cards say debit.

There was an episode of BTAS about an insane warden at Arkham who's fired for being too cruel to the inmates, and then goes on to make his own prison for the villains.
Personally, I think it'd be cool to have the recently reformed Riddler installed as Arkham's head of security, at least for a time. You could turn the whole insane place into something like Bradbury's House of Usher.
I usually write cheques for certain types of bills because I like having the paper trail. It makes stuff easier to argue when you have that paper trail from your end, and your banks end. This is good especially when you have to deal with the American medical system.
When I opened my checking account (with free online bill pay and internet banking) I got a checkbook in the mail a week or two later. That checkbook is sitting in a drawer collecting dust because I think I've maybe written 5 checks in my life, but this way I'm prepared in case I need to write 7 before I die.
Ah right. Here you don't get one unless you specifically ask for one, and there's frequently a charge.
I've had two, but christ knows where they are, I've moved house twice since I last had to write a cheque.

If you're doing a private transaction with another person for whatever reason, they're helpful. Most people don't have machines to scan your credit card.
For example, when I pay my $1500 or whatever for room and board at my fraternity each semester, I give our treasurer a check. It's far more convenient than running down to the bank and getting enough cash.
1500 a semester?
do you live in a barn or something?
I just picked a random number.
I live at my fraternity for around $1000 a trimester, which is the equivalent of $1500 a semester.
We live in a dirty 150 year old house with no AC or heating. It's pretty great.

Mines in a mini-hope chest next to my passport and various other semi-important oddities that I rarely have use for but still need to keep track of.

Yes. My checkbook came with my account. They gave me a small book with ten checks or so inside (which I still haven't finished going through) and mailed me a custom one a couple weeks later.
Checks are incredibly painless over here the few times they're actually used. I think you Europeans are exaggerating the flaws.

Mostly it just bugs me that it takes so long for them to process (because there are few things as annoying as sums of money leaving your account at unexpected times) and there are so many intermediate steps relative to direct transfer. Plus, I can do bank transfers from my phone (either with a call or via internets) in a situation where I wouldn't be carrying a chequebook around.

Why is Nintendo making it harder for me to use legit games that I gave them money for?
Contrary to the cartoon, ham is never inappropriate.
