when you talk the game sound goes quieter and then goes back up when you stop talking.
Do you do this effect by hand?
it's a program in audacity, Effect > Auto Duck
ed: what do you guys think of the audio i must know

Oh really? So it will automatically duck everything except for Audacity? That's so good!
edit: Ok it only works if I put the sound of both the video and my recording in there? huh, less good
And the audio is fine, but sometimes it feels like you guys are being cut off.

Yeah I've been using audacity separately from fraps for ages, because it gives you way more flexibility.

EDIT EDIT: So to add something of value to this post, I want to say the commentary is fairly good. It's about the same quality as Alan Wake's (the commentary that is, the audio is better). You have your knowledge and then you have Earwig Squad to add to the humor; this is pretty much the same dynamic as your last LP. Some more vocalized pauses than in AW but that's to be expected from a live LP. Your laugh is still stupid. It seems in this latest video you've managed to not have such random volume changes in the audio as well (as far as I've noticed).
Actually, I can make guesses, but I want to know what your reasoning is behind making this a live LP. Is it to capture Earwig's surprise on the get go or what?

the game has a shitload of grinding and sidequests so it's easier to know where to cut because I'll just go "the commentary sucks here"
also yeah, so it feels like a more reactive, emotive lp as opposed to a more staid one (which is what happens when it's post)

There are plenty of copies left in the xchange's here on Island. I've been waiting for them to mark them way down like they do other games that don't sell... except they haven't done it with Nier yet. The LP is a good break from frustrating bouts of Magicka, and it scratches my itch for an action RPG. (at least until Dungeon Defenders releases on PC)
I can't count how many times I've picked this up and put it back down.
Thanks Rent for doing this LP.

So I went through the Drakengard LP before starting this. All I can say is, "what in the hell was that?" Words cannot even begin to describe the sheer...whatever that is that game.
The mind boggles at how this could be so good when Drakengard (and apparently everything else Cavia did) was so bad. I can't wait to see.
Why is the "r" in Nier capitalized? It doesn't make any sense!
I refuse to watch any of this until this is remedied!
it's how it's spelled, fuck if i know
Where is it even spelled like that anyway? I played it and I never noticed that, and searching turns up like one site that spells it like that. Everything else is either spelled normal or all in caps.
Anyway, I don't actually care. I will start watching and probably catch up with this later tonight though.
I have been following the Dark Id thread though, and I'll say that the story actually affected other people a lot more than it did me. I just never got emotionally invested in the characters much at all, the main reason probably being that it just felt to me like they were trying too hard to get that sort of reaction, so a lot of the time I was just rolling my eyes at various points.

Okay i'm quoting this for posterity in this lp
The rest of you, guys who haven't played the game- if you don't cry or at the very least feel super depressed at least twice in this lp, you are dead inside
I have never had a videogame make me cry. I still haven't.
Neir though came DAMN close. Watery eyes.
I can think of 3 scenes off the top of my head, that while I may not use the word "depressing", I would say are intensely emotionally powerful. Deeply saddening.

I'll try but the problem is is any description that'll be helpful to discern what it's about would by its very nature be a spoiler

He's kinda a big deal if you're into anime. But brother Weiss has to be one of his better roles. Fuck I love his banter during battles.

Is there any significance to the

Just kidding. It doesn't matter if you buy the game anymore - the studio's already been broken up!
