"male role-model" movies

Been looking for some stereotypical male influence, and I figure the quickest and easiest place to find it is on DVD. Current list consists of:

Fight Club - Tyler Durden
Unforgiven - William Munny
Goldfinger - James Bond
Die Hard - John McClane
Clear and Present Danger - Jack Ryan
The Godfather/Godfather II - Vito Corleone

If you can't tell, my cinematic experience is woefully underdeveloped. Suggestions are highly appreciated.

so, do you mean... "good" male role-models, like, people to model your life after?

because man, you must live one fucking crazy (and awesome) life if you think those are "good" male role models! :O

i wanted love, i needed love
most of all, most of all
someone said true love was dead

It all comes down to John Maclane and Indiana Jones. Maybe a little Ferris Bueller

Haha, Yeah I guess I should clarify - this is purely for entertainment purposes. I'm studying Russian literature and getting a little too deeply involved with the human condition, and I figure a good counterbalance would be some action/adventure flicks with strong lead characters and lots of testosterone. Read: the antithesis of Prince Myshkin, Raskolnikov, et al.

    Evil Dead 2.

Such a good suggestion I'm going to lime myself.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

There's an obscure-ish movie that I saw a few years ago that's about a typical average guy being a role-model to a younger boy. About a Boy is the name. I dunno.

Honestly, I love George Clooney's Danny Ocean from the Ocean films.

He seems out of his mind, but he always has complete control of every single situation, and is twenty steps ahead of everyone else. Also, in that same style, Brad Pitt's Rusty Ryan. Always has the right thing to say, always wears a perfect, razor-cut suit, and is quick on his feet.

I was thinking of Bulletproof with Gary Busey, in which Busey pours unfiltered cigarette tobacco into his partner's mouth to wake him up from a nap.

Then he sneaks up on the badguys, and says things like 'Bird season's over, butthorn'.

I have to admit, that sounds pretty damn close to exactly what I'm looking for :P

Some of these I feel retarded for not having through of first. Evil Dead's Ash is the personification of machismo, and Indiana Jones is right up there with Die Hard as a necessary staple. Oceans 11 & 12, and Man on Fire make the list just for situational badassery. Thanks - keep throwing 'em out if you've got 'em

Oh, I see... well, I guess I must have missed that bit. Thanks for the clarification.

    In that case:

I liked Leonard DiCaprio in Blood Diamond.
    The Rocketeer
    Daredevil
    The Mod Squad
    Die Hard
    Lethal Weapon
    Braveheart
    the Fifth Element
    The Rock
    Blade
    The Matrix
    Pirates of the Caribbean?
    Die Hard with a Vengeance
    Troy
    Black Hawk Down
    300
    Last Man Standing
    U-571

haha. I may not be helping, just naming off a few of my absolute favorite action films...

and I'm sorry but the wrath of Grindhouse, must be known in this thread.

but I can't confirm that personally, it's from a third party source.

    Commando.

    ENOUGH SAID!

And I saw "About A Boy" as suggested. I really don't recommend this movie for a number of reasons. In terms of this topic? I don't see how it fits. In terms of bad movies? Well, when I saw it when I was 11, I thought it was terrible.

P.S. - If you ever get into video games with male role-models, look no further than Metal Gear Solid 3. Within the first two hours of play you will see great things.
