Man it dosen't surprise me that it was a bunch of Germans or Swedes or Swiss that had enough attention to detail to build a fucking aircraft carrier to scale.
The viking sets are fucking hilarious, horned helmets everywhere.
Wasn't a big fan of the Viking sets.
Just didn't seem like there was enough variation.
HERE THEY ARE IN A SHIP
HERE THEY ARE IN A CATAPAULT
End.
But that can be done with any set.
HERE THEY ARE IN A SPACE BASE
HERE THEY ARE IN A SPACE SHIP
HERE THEY ARE IN A CASTLE
HERE THEY ARE IN A PIRATESHIP
I mean more like the variation just wasn't there.
Yeah you might have five or six different "ship" type models in a line but there was a huge difference in the Space Police Galatic Defender and the Blacktron Raider.
I always loved the castle Lego sets. Oh man I did some creative stuff with hinges and movable parts in those things.
I'm going to start working on this fucker. Would you guys like progress update pictures?
Sure.
I remember the set I had...it was a castle on a hill, so the "base" piece (the giant green thing the castle sat on) was elevated about four inches, with the middle concaved in, leaving room for some of the most killer dungeons ever created by these hands.
I'm a little pissed that I spent most of a morning building that wheeled star wars thing that came with...fuck, I'm bad at names today. the black jedi. mace windu, that's it. Anyway, it was on a shelf and for no apparent reason rolled off and smashed to bits. Haven't had the time to rebuild yet.
My favorite LEGO sets involve electric trains. I was so happy after years and years of LEGO-ownership I got a limited edition old-fashioned train (with CABOOSE!) for Christmas. I had it circumnavigating my little wild-west mining town complete with makeshift Alamo and a 4-axle jalopy based off of the badguy's truck from The Rescuers Down Under.
I'll be honest, once I got a little bit older, Knex were the way to go for me...Gears, scaffolding, motors, oh man. I realize Lego has all of those stuff now, but Knex just hit me on another creative level.
K'nex was cool and all but they didn't really resemble anything. THEY HAD NO SOUL, THEY WERE JUST STRIPPED DOWN STRUCTURES THAT RESEMBLED THINGS IN REAL LIFE
My favorite Lego set was the deep sea set.
The ships looked so cool.
They had these little crystal things
That I would lose and latter step on.
Yeah, my lego guys would use them for money later on. They were the largest form of currency. The smallest being the coins (gold or silver) and right above those the 'nuggets' aka those big pieces that connected the 4 coins together in the package. Every kid used those things. I'm sure LEGO intended them to be thrown away.

Aquanauts and whatever the red shark guys were. Fun fact: the harpoons easily lodge in pool filters, and the crystals are really hard to see in water.

edit shit
Oh man, I beat'd you with like, seven words. Also, on the subject of crustals from the ocean sets, I would use them as power sources for some of my more stranger devices.

The knight looks WoW Paladin inspired.
Ahaha

Was that one guy, or a team?

To be fair, that's a pretty awesome fort.
I mean more like the variation just wasn't there.

I just wasn't impressed.
Never saw that model.
That is pretty awesome.
There's a lot going on there.
Vikings without human enemies defeats the entire point of Vikings!
I'm going to start working on this fucker. Would you guys like progress update pictures?
Honestly now that I have a decent castle set out I think something can be done about that.
Sure.

Just cracked this fucker open.
I'm impressed. There's all sorts of delicate little pieces and the instruction manual is a fucking textbook.
Need.
Now.

As an aside man yeah those were pretty awesome.
I mean attack subs shaped like sharks.
WTF is not to love?
YOUR WISH IS MY COMMAND
Why didn't they have these when I was young(er)?!

Also, the medieval helmets with the hinged faceplates were oh so awesome when I was 5.

Yes!
I had so many of those medieval guys.
Those helmets were awesome.
Except sometimes the head would get stuck
And you could never get it out.
