I'm playing a monk. Basically my weapons are just totems I carry around, because I have no skills that actually hit with them and you don't have a standard attack.

Ok, so I have now played a wizard through the beta content, and it was kinda fun! Wish it was harder, but that is to be expected from the begining. I do question though, how so many people seem to have played this same little dollop of content over and over and over and over. What am I missing? If I just don't get it, that's fine, do what you do! But man, I am not terribly inclined to do more than maybe one more run through, as a different class.

e: Weird. Apparently the fix is to download the EU English version of the game. Seems to have worked for a lot of people.
e2: Welp, it didn't work for me!
If this is happening during installation, I had this as well. I just left it for a while and eventually it finished doing it's thing after 30 minutes or so.

diablo is mainly about farming bosses over and over for the best gear possible, so people playing the beta did that through all the character wipes etc
I felt the same way, Quantum. Ain't no thing. Farming isn't the jam for all of us. That was never what D2 was about for me either, so I'm looking forward to seeing what D3 has to offer for a dude who doesn't wanna do runs or farm. I'm sure there's quite a lot!
Anyone heard about whether or not they plan to implement a UI scaling feature? It's definitely not bad on my TV, but text is just a wee bit too small and could use just a hair size increase.

the animations dont use your weapon but I'm pretty sure every hit applies weapon effects, so lifegain from damage dealt will work
and if you look at enemy corpses they sometimes get a glow depending on the type of damage that killed them so if you're using a poison weapon they'll have green corpses even if you're not using a skill that looks like it uses the weapon at all
also attack speed on a weapon changes how fast your monk punches, even though the attack animation doesnt use the weapon (yet)

Wonder how many achievements I can get in 2 days. As many as possible would be ideal. I bet they'll carry over to the full version as some kind of Feat of Strength equivalent. The elite kills seem like they would be the biggest roadblock, particularly the co-op one.

I tend to rush through games like this faster than my friends and so will likely have multiple characters on release. One to run co-op with dudes and one to just level on my own time at my own pace.
it is possible the multiplayer content in this game for me will be just talking about what I am playing through inferno/hardcore by myself
big loner hermit loser over here! At least when it comes to optional co-op. If it's tuned to work for one player I am almost always inclined to fly solo

I usually played my multiplayer character solo in D2.
Because my friends were dicks.

And that doesn't really work with co-op because everyone is always in a hurry!

Die mephisto, die!
No uniques? Fuck you!

I'd actually be pretty surprised if it were possible to do Inferno solo. Have they said as much?
I just hope Inferno mode doesn't fall into the more recent WoW pit of relying on RNG mechanics you can't control to make encounters difficult rather than having them require actual skill.

With Blizzard I don't think it's a matter of "hey, this thing is hard to do. let's do the easy thing instead!" at all. If it were, we'd be seeing them come out with non-expansion games in a series quicker than once a decade or so. WoW expansions are by necessity on a stricter time table than Diablo is, which is why I'm hoping more good comes out of Inferno mode.

I'm saying it's really hard to figure out a good way to make a challenging fight without falling back on that old 'boss hits harder/faster and has more health than other guys.' The vast majority of WoW fights are spank and tanks. D2 bosses didn't really have any sense of 'fairness' to them.
It's more likely that most bosses will end up being either too unfair or too easy just based on the nature of creative design.

Classic WoW, yeah, Wrath and Cataclysm they've avoided doing too many tank n' spanks in raids. Dungeons and such though, for sure.
Has spells doing weapon damage % always been a thing in D3? I don't honestly remember from when last I played the beta, but I'm liking it. It's awesome to grab a bow with higher damage and get a boost to my spells, rather than having to wait for very specific items with the proper modifiers on them.

I think for the entire time D3 has been in beta spells have worked off of weapon damage, but the math behind it has changed a couple times I think

How could it be impossible? I mean groups don't necessarily have a dedicated tank/healer/dps so I feel like at worst the progress would just be super slow and demanding
I mean I guess monsters could regen so much that one person can't produce enough dps or death is so unavoidable that you need a group to stagger their deaths while killing things or some such but that doesn't seem right. I obviously have no idea what it will be like but I would be surprised if the singleplayer content was suddenly impossible to solo (not just really hard, but somehow undoable via mechanics) on inferno difficulty

How many wrath and cata fights came down to "Having a tank who can live through the hits" and "dps kills before the timer is up"

As the only mechanic of the entire fight? Very few of them. I mean if you're classifying every encounter where the tank takes damage and the dps do damage as a tank n' spank sure, but that's being far too broad. The tank, dps and healer triumvirate is a core game mechanic for the game. You have account for things like phases, adds, positioning, etc before deciding whether an encounter is merely just tank and spank.

Also I thought there was no lifeleach like in D2, but rather % damage returned to you as health

edit: unless what you meant was that D3 in particular isn't single player
1v1 outside of skeleton king room
1on1???? C U AT LAN
even that's bullshit
it's arguably more fun with people but you can certainly play it all by your lonesome and get the vast majority of the game's content
I plan to play it by myself all the way through at least once before I play with other people
Gonna savor it all the first time through
Disintegrate now requires level 21.
