Just finished watching Gone Girl with the wife and went to help her make the bed and she was like "It's alright honey, you're helping me make the bed so you don't have to worry about me trying to kill you in your sleep. Or do you?"
Did you start spoiling movies for her that I was going to watch this evening?
That may also be a point of conflict.
I'm sorry Posh. I should have been more considerate of that, she had meant it as a general statement but I can see where that might have been construed as a spoiler. I won't say anything further about it.
But now I live with my parents and work a tolerable job for extremely mediocre money. Things are ok, all things considered, but I am proof that age-you-complete-fancy-degree is not always positively correlated with success.
My main source of anxiety and thoughts of being a failure emerge from the fact that there are people my age who have finished theirs
I'll be lucky if I'm done by 28
duder, doing a PhD is, like, proof that you are a superhuman.
It is silly to worry about finishing your PhD at 28, that is quite young to finish a PhD. What you should worry about is every horrible thing that comes after.

Exactly.
Except you probably won't, and the cycle starts anew.
Isn't the average age of a postgrad like, 28ish. You're still ahead of the curve.

It's 2015. 28 is the new 26.

I finished my MA at 30.
I am considering my PhD now at 32.
One of my real life heroes didn't finish his PhD till he was 38. He is one of the top HIV researchers and complete bad ass.
With PhD's it isn't about age it is about publishing.

I'm 27 and am who I am
And yet I consider myself successful
Which means I am clearly suffering from some sort of mental illness
But anyway if you're up on me then you're probably good
But you're not up on me, because I'm the greatest

None of it's going to matter after that giant meteorite destroys the Earth in 2026.

One has an actual IR job. She works for an international lobbying firm working with South America which is her thing. She makes less than me.
The other is an administrative assistant at a financial firm. She makes more than me.
Because in DC MAs are as common as pigeons.
See? It all works out.
You're a fucking champion, Chu. Shut the fuck up and finish your degree.
