Not the Afterwhat games. Not Extraterrestrials. Not a game that relies on hokey bioweapons, NotEarths, greys with russian accents, or Battle Grannies. Not a game that is a flight sim or a shooter.
Just good ol' covert defense of terra firma against mysterious invaders from beyond.
Is that too much to ask?
PREVIEW EDIT: Oh, man, I thought I was the only one who liked Hybrid Heaven's idea too!
I would love a new Jet Force Gemini. I played that game so much.
Another franchise that might be fun to see again would be Donkey Kong. Nothing like that N64 atrocity - but a huge jungle you could explore at your leisure, performing all kinds of primate acrobatics. The jungle would act as a hub, connected to all of the areas (inspired by the classic DKCs, of course). It's kind of hard to explain it how I see it in my head, but basically it's a non-linear platforming game. Instead of levels and worlds, it's one big, seamless world that has various areas, almost like Zelda or Metroid. Explore far enough into a given area and you encounter a boss. The later areas might be blocked off until the preceding areas are finished, so you can't go straight to the final boss and finish the game.
After we played with the motorcycles in the PGR4 demo, my friends and I couldn't believe how badly we wanted to play a new Road Rash game.
I'm still kind of breathing hard from thinking about it.
I still have and play the original on Genesis. First game I ever got for it. Then I played Road Rash 3D, and really enjoyed it. Although I have heard a LOT of people thought it sucked.

My favorite Road Rash was the aforementioned one with the FMVs. CD, I think. Also on PSX?
It had a pretty good OST, including some Monster Magnet track.

This is so ludicrously obvious it blows my fucking my mind every time I think about it. The fact that nobody in a position to make it happen seems to get this is one of the greatest mysteries of our time.
There must be hundreds of games that deserve to be mangled and pissed on by today's devs.
- Xcom. Every sequel after the first two games were awful.
- Blood. The first one was awesome. The second one a joke.
- The Earthsiege games.
- The Crusader games.
- The Baldur's Gate games.
Mmm, Crusader: No Remorse....
I was recently thinking about Jet Grind/Set Radio and how it needs to make a return.

Although maybe not this gen... maybe not the next, but one day when Nintendo finally decides to go "HD", I would really like to see a remake of StarFox64 (or just StarFox). I have StarFox Assault, its ok, but I want to see something with X360/PS3 +++ graphics.... Its not gonna come out on the Wii I know that for sure... maybe not the next console... but if Nintendo is still around 2-3 more gens, its coming and will be really awesome. R-Wings kick ass.
I would also really like to see a SanFransico Rush be remade with top notch graphics and physics... I played this game so much on my N64 I think the cartridge has been welded to my machine. I'm not talking about Rush 2164 or w/e that crap was... I want my SF Rush!
Oh yea... and WaveRace and 1080.
Just a few N64 games I'd like to see remade.

A rush game was recently made for PS2 and Xbox. Sort of free roaming. I think it's set in L.A or Hollywood or somewhere.
All animal mascots from 90s platformers should be placed in one game together. Bubsy, Aero the Acrobat, Zool, etc etc, all in one 2-4 player platformer with all their abilities and powerups intact. It would be like the video game equivalent of a lineup of 80s one hit wonders playing at the county fair.
Oh I forgot, did they ever make a new Monster Rancher? My friend and I played that a long time ago for the PS. I remember you could put in music CDs, and it would give you all kinds of weird and new monsters.
Seeing as how I've been on an X bender recently, it's obligatory to mention/echo Freelancer. Rip some of the station/empire management and capital ship aspects of X with Freelancer's more fluid nature and make it easy as fuck to mod up the wazoo (and add some damn joystick support) and it'd be an absolute smash.
EDIT: Though I agree continuing the LoK series would be the bestevez, though a bit reluctant since both Amy Henning is gone from CD, and Tony Jay is very dead.

Every time.

Collect 100 tribal heads.
You unlock nothing but damn if it isn't satisfying.
also - We need a new game starring that bizzarro plumber Wario.
Specifically of the Land variety. I love Warioware but it's just not the same.
I'm still kind of breathing hard from thinking about it.

Sonic could headline.
Yeah, Rare needs to get on this shit now. That and they need to make a new Snake, Rattle, 'n' Roll.
Every Bullfrog game ever.
Populous, Magic Carpet, Syndicate, Theme Park/Hospital, Dungeon Keeper etc. They all deserve to be revived and get proper sequels.
Also E.V.O.

Every year a sequel doesn't come out I get progressively sadder. And older.
Oh hey, good call there.
That would be a huge gain for the PS3 too.
Or the 360 or Wii, you know, seeing how it was made by a third party.
It wouldn't be a Soul Reaver game, though.
EDIT: Though I agree continuing the LoK series would be the bestevez, though a bit reluctant since both Amy Henning is gone from CD, and Tony Jay is very dead.
I replayed the GBA version recently, and seeing the ending tease about a sequel was physically painful.
Yeah, a new Kunio-kun game on the DS or even a hi res 2.5d version on a home console would be awesome.
Well sorry, I just figured it would be kept to Sony platforms much like a number of other third party games have been.
Elite.
