Yeah. Trump's very concerned with his Twitter numbers because he sees this entire thing as a popularity contest and social media feeds his ego well. A large portion of the voter pool does not know what Twitter is. Those that do, long since made up their minds

I think the fatal flaw of Trump's "Secretary Clinton" strategy is that nobody in the history of the earth has used "Secretary" as an honorific for their office assistant. If he wanted to conjure an image of a woman being pressed down under the glass ceiling, sending faxes and fetching coffee, that was the wrong ass thing to do.

The only people who ever get to be "Secretary [Surname]" are people who are involved in high-ranking positions in very serious and influential organizations. Especially with the zeitgeist being somewhat fixated currently on a couple gentlemen you may recall as Secretary Jefferson and Secretary Hamilton.

Realizing lately that I don't really trust or respect basically any of the moderators here. So, good luck with life, friends! Hit me up on Twitter @DesertLeviathan

He completely snubbed Lester Holt last night. That's what happens when he loses.
he did actually shake hands with Holt at the end.
He hasn't really gone after Holt's moderation as much as I expected - it seems his surrogates are going to try to portray it as a hatchet job but trump himself (or his campaign handlers?) seems to recognize that high profile feuds with moderators over fair moderation isn't a winning strategy. Although I guess it hasn't been that long so maybe?

Just keep in mind, one bad debate performance does not sink a candidate, any more than a good one wins it. I still remember the first Obama/McCain debate, where Obama looked horrible and Andrew Sullivan was declaring it the end of the world. Obviously, Obama came back and was very different in the next two.

The main difference between Obama and Trump is that Obama's issue was that his disdain for Romney ended up putting him in a position to be unprepared and blindsided, while Trump can't stop and consider for five seconds that maybe he can let it slide when someone pokes fun at him, especially when he's on a debate stage in front of millions of Americans.

Obama turned it around by acknowledging his mistakes and learning from them; I seriously doubt Trump has the emotional maturity or the campaign staff to do the same thing. He's always going to be a thin skinned blowhard who can't let a personal slight go, no matter how minor, and as long as Hillary keeps needling him, she can keep him on tilt and exacerbate his image as an unrefined bully who lacks the temperament to be President.

A few months ago, I asked what my dad's thoughts were on the presidential candidates. He's intelligent, highly educated, financially successful, and has a background in economics and business, so he can provide a pretty detailed explanation for why he hates both Bernie Sanders and Clinton's economic policies. After a bit of a rant, he said that he would hold his nose and vote for Trump. Last night I asked him what his takeaway from the debate was. He told me that one of the president's jobs is to make speeches to educate the American public, but Trump doesn't seem to be capable of verbalizing a coherent thought. I didn't ask for anything else because I didn't want to sit through a lecture, but here's hoping that Trump's blatant incompetence will at some point become more important than my pop's opinion that "every idea Hillary has is horrible."

This is really a winning strategy for her that I think helped her A TON in last night's debate and I think is an almost guaranteed winning strategy in any future debates. Simply put:

    1) When Donald needles her, she intentionally avoids looking frustrated or upset about it. She gives him a shit-eating grin to convey that, first of all, she aint even mad; and second of all, bless Donald's heart (in that condescending southern way).

    2) Say things that ruffle Donald's feathers, then just stand back and watch him hang himself.

    3) Allow the contrast between "he's a gasping, sniffling, groaning, frustrated tantrum-thrower" and "I'm an emotionally-in-control strategist who is playing this narcissist like a fiddle" to sink in.

She pulled this off big time and will do it again, because if there is one thing we know about Donald, it's that he utterly lacks the self-control to overcome this strategy. He is too chronically narcissistic. He might weakly resist it for a while, but he will always cave to his narcissism. He can't resist.

One thing that's been consistent for his entire political run is that he is incapable of admitting fault or acknowledging a mistake and fixing it later. He doubles down on literally everything. Even the birther "walkback" was just him saying that he never did half the stuff and that he actually fixed the problem himself.

There's no chance that he sees his performance last night and works to make it better for the next debate.
