DEBATE INFO
When: 9pm EDT
Where: Hempstead, NY
How: Literally every channel is pretty much airing this. Facebook will be livestreaming, and I imagine YouTube shall as well.
The country that brought you World of Warcraft is having an election! For president! It's the head of the USA's executive branch, and arguably the most powerful position that any one person on the planet can hold. This kind of election only happens once every four years, so you gotta enjoy it while it lasts! Let's have a good time and talk about all the hilarious ups and downs of this election season. Warning: sometimes it may be less hilarious, and more soul-crushing!
Things to Consider Before Posting
- Resist the urge to dogpile unpopular sentiments. If it's really inflammatory then report it.
- Just because somebody is/isn't voting doesn't mean they are personally responsible for the downfall of democracy.
- This is SE++ so don't get hung up on derails.
Previously in the POTUS Thread...
September has been a tumultuous month for the Clinton camp, with the Donald dramatically closing the gap and bringing things to a statistical tie. This can be blamed on a number of things: an article a few weeks ago claiming donors to the Clinton Foundation got special access to the Secretary of State (this was wildly exaggerated, but you repeat a lie enough...), more email news, and it turns out Clinton
was sick and passed out during a 9/11 event. Of course she just had pneumonia as opposed to the hyper brain cancer the right wants you to believe. A bit rich from the party that brought us Dick Cheney, the man whose body kept rejecting its heart. The good news is that Clinton seems to be back on the upswing, and the race seems to be trending back towards a slight Clinton advantage.
But this doesn't mean dick, because the first debate is Monday and that changes everything. It's been suggested that this debate will have a YUGE viewership, on par with the Super Bowl if you believe the hype. Performance will set the pace for the election as we enter October, the final month when things get real heated.

In the Blue Corner...Hillary "Coughin'" Clinton68 Years Old
Former Secretary of State and SenatorStrengths: She did well in the primary debates, and she's favored to win. Again, she's the regular candidate, which means her role will be that of the adult in the room. If she can hold Trump to his claims and force him to extrapolate upon them, then she may regain the dominating lead she enjoyed throughout August. In addition, she has an actual agenda and can win a lot of points just by mapping out her plans in a clear, concise fashion with none of the grandiose claims her opponent will undoubtedly make. Oh, and Clinton has experience in actual debates, whereas her opponent debated in bizarre circuses that had way the fuck too many people present.
Weaknesses: Regardless of what you may think, the public sees Clinton as one with a mausoleum in her closet. If Trump keeps her on the defensive and forced to (yet again) explain shit like the emails, Benghazi, her health, the debate may end with her looking untrustworthy and weak. Certain moderators are already saying that it isn't their job to fact-check, which in the real world is known as "moderating", so she'll have to expose any bullshit herself.

Senator, Former Governor of Virginia and DNC ChairStrengths: Coming October 4th!Weaknesses: Coming October 4th!In the Red Corner...Donald "Skittles" Trump70 Years Old
he's allowed to runStrengths: He's a media hound with no filter. He could win just by saying lie upon lie and leaving his opponent to buried in bullshit to muster a proper defense. Trump's actual platform is so flimsy it couldn't house a pair of shoes, so his primary strategy is attack attack attack. The goal here isn't to get people to like him, but to distrust Clinton enough to stay home. He's already browbeating moderators against "bias" which is code for "Don't call me out on my bullshit." If he can bully Holt, then other moderators may fall in line and let Trump's crap go unopposed.
Weaknesses: If he's fact-checked, he's screwed. A lot of his claims are just wishful thinking that the right ate up earlier this year, but over in reality people aren't
quite as easily fooled. His malarky during the primary won people over, but being a rude bully via constant interruptions is going to make him look unpresidential and childish. Can Trump act like an adult and wait his turn?

Governor of IndianaStrengths: Coming October 4th!Weaknesses: Coming October 4th!FAQWho are our tragic third-party candidates?Jill Stein (with running mate Ajamu Baraka) is running on the Green Party ticket, and
Gary Johnson (with running mate Bill Weld) is the Libertarian candidate. There's other perennial candidates, such as Vermin Supreme, but I'd be here all day rattling off those.
What's a battleground?
A state that is polling more or less in the middle is considered a battleground. Because solidly Republican or Democratic states would require too much time and money to make even a dent in polls, candidates focus on the handful of states that are feasible to turn. Now, this doesn't mean that voting in a "stronghold" state is pointless. After all, many battleground states were at one point or another considered reliable votes for one party or the other, and people do pay attention to shifts in polls even if the overall outcome hasn't quite changed yet.
States "in play" this election include Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Oh, and apparently Georgia now?

How long do I have to register to vote?It varies by stateNovember 8th is kinda busy for me. Can I vote early? It varies by state, although some states don't allow for early voting at all.
I want to vote from a safe distance. What are my options for citizens abroad? This should help you out.
Note that this should also be useful for people who are still in the States but will be in another state/city/etc from wherever they're registered come election day.

Ted Cruz has murdered and he will murder again
i guess that's a kind of 2nd amendment solution
"HE'S GONNA TAKE AWAY OUR GUNS!
Oh, only for black people? Nevermind, it's fine."
The modern NRA crowd has always been for the peaceful exercise of one's Second Amendment rights, up until the underclass does so. See the restrictions on open carry in California, signed into law by none other than St. Ronnie himself.
Ah, but convert it into Gorilla years.
Surprisingly enough Gorilla's lifespan in the wild is about half the lifespan of a human, so he'd just barely qualify in Gorilla years.
I don't believe the Constitution allows for that.
There's nothing in the Constitution that says a Gorilla can't be President.
Well, you're the lawyer, so I guess I'll take your word for it.
Check and mate
They had a sample ballot.
I kinda think I need to research more of the other local offices and who is running.
Fun fact, if you read the back of the Constitution, it says "No Memes."
It's in invisible ink though, so you have to cover it in lemon juice and heat it up with a blow dryer.
here's what you do
go find someone with a trump sign that has a bunch of other signs up with it
don't vote for any of those people
It's even more complicated than most police shootings.
Are you talking about that fucking dumb Nic Cage movie?
His main money/publicity boosters threw their money behind Trump.
He's from a perma-red state. Being the guy in the party who didn't back the presidential candidate is going to see the party back another candidate for his seat. He has more to lose because being the republican from a republican state makes him expendable if he rocks the boat. The state is so locked down that the only thing he has to worry about is whether the party chooses to back someone else within the party, he doesn't even have to worry about running against people outside of his party.

I'm not optimistic, but that in my mind would be maybe the best possible outcome from all of this.
Were they ever principles, though?
2018, but if Trump loses that doesn't suddenly make what he did any more palatable to his money backers.
