I've been trying to play through Yakuza 2 on the PS2 in recent days, but I've gotten to a point where I just suck at the combat or am getting into fights that I'm not prepared for yet. Part of the problem is I'm continuing a save game that I had last played in 2009. Kind of tempted just to give up on it.
So tonight I decided to load up ol' Mad Max on the PC. It felt just right. Nice to play an Avalanche game again. All I've done so far is get the body for my new car (the body is called "Shovel Face"), but I look forward to seeing more.
So I managed to learn some more things about Abyss Odessey. Managed to get deep enough to unlock a mimic I had captured earlier on this playthrough, and used his abilities to cheese a boss quite badly.
Ghost Monk scaring the shit out of soldiers was enlightening.
Also discovered a secret character from Zeno Clash in here.

I liked Abyss Odyssey quite a bit the one time I played it but I also beat it that time so never went back to it.

@SmokeStacks I too am late to the conversation, 'Stacks but a couple of other soundtracks I've enjoyed while I was working are Hawken for that motivating military feel taking me back to the Crimson Tide soundtrack. And Moon Hunters which, though it does have a singer on some of the tracks, the vocals are recorded in reverse so the words are not remotely recognizeable and it has a nice haunting feel.
It's a solid little JRPG. Has social link elements as well as a "traitor" system where every chapter of the game there's a member of the party to root out that's secretly working for the bad guy. Battle system isn't bad. Not the most exciting JRPG port, but a decent mid tier option.

This is why the JRPG protagonist trope of accepting literally anyone onto the team is not a great idea. Also it would be hilarious if it turned out every single member of your party was working for the antagonist. Then it eventually comes down to just two of you and you think you've got this person pegged as the traitor, and in a twist it turns out they're the real hero and you're the sleeper agent.
Remember The Thing adaptation a while back? How it was possible for the player to know for a fact that the other NPC was the creature, still fail the test, and the trigger the transformation anyway?
A game will have to work awfully hard to provide a proper mole NPC without driving the player on rails to where the writers want to go.
I'm still kind of pissed I could never shank Kreia at the beginning of the game.
Working from home, the only rep for some of my work online yesterday and today, handling what turned out to be a false alarm ticket and see this pop up on my screen. After the way this morning has been at work? It's a fun game gift emulating life in its own way. Thanks @WIckedkarma for this Grimmest of Dawns!
That sound you hear is my body being smacked about my a lancer boss in Abyss Odyssey, range is killer and I'm either blind to the telegraphs or my computer is too slow to actually show them.

Hawken OST:
Dude I love the Hawken soundtrack. I actually played the hell out of the game for a while with a group of people, but after the devs sorta abandoned it and the updates stopped coming we all sorta fell apart. It sucks, because Hawken was a ton of fun, but the playerbase just never quite made it to decent levels (it seemed like it came out just in time to get killed by Titanfall, which is ironic). Since the playerbase was so low it was hard to find good matches because the MMR and grouping systems were extremely strict. My group was spread out pretty far in terms of ability so it was a pain in the ass to get everyone together in one match.
I read that a new company picked it up and was doing some work with it so maybe one day when I get a new GPU I'll fire it up again and see how rusty I am.
I remember that night we all played Hawken for FNG and it was a blast. Maybe we could get another one of those going at some point.

I'm getting a sort of reverse-The Man who was Thursday vibe here.

Yeah, there aren't many games willing to toy with the idea of not bringing on certain people. The most recent I know of is Dead State, where certain survivors cause friction with others or just flat-out murder each other eventually. One guy's basically a serial killer who's been lying through his teeth since the apocalypse began, and tries to butter you up as a way to throw off the scent. There's an achievement for recruiting everybody you can, and most conflicts can be managed to a point, but bodies start piling up if you're careless about who you bring in.
So, I'm just sitting in chat, and someone mentioned a new Muppets in Space. I was excited! And then, no, it was a joke designed to dash my hopes and dreams. Not to worry, though, because there were those who pounced upon the chance to try and cheer me up, like the friends they are.
Thanks @Zavian for football the way it's meant to be played: Murder.
And @Spoit is, of course, the worst person for implying Australians are related in any way. Also drawing on unrelated and completely fictional accounts by Corrigan.
Thanks!

Something a little lame about Steam. Stacking discounts. Turok 2 is 25% off until the 23rd, but I also have a 25% Turok 2 coupon. Does it bring it from $19.99 to $9.99? No, it brings it to $14.99, and then to $11.25. That's pretty silly.

Unfortunately that guy got fired last year. I heard my support agent actually threw him off of the roof.
