EA says they've changed. It still remains to be seen if it's enough, because they're still up to their same old shit.

They're bringing it back with some good games, man. Like Skate, Mirror's Edge and Dead Space. I'm sure other people will say some others.
Mirror's Edge could still turn out to be pretty crappy you know (gameplay-wise, not graphics-wise obviously). I wouldn't sing its praises before it's out, it could really go either way.

This is hardly an EA-exclusive issue though. Lots of companies rush games out the door before they are finished. From Nintendo to Ubisoft.

    Nintendo?
Wind Waker for example. Cut dungeons to rush it out on time. There's remains of them still in the game, like Jabu Jabu.

Usually the connotation behind "rushing" out a game is that it is usually inherently bad. That's not the case with Wind Waker.

    Also, OP misspelled Activision.

Hopefully EA has learned from their many, many mistakes.

But the deal with copy-protection in Mass Effect and Spore that was posted about a while back certainly never would have occurred before the buyout.

Really? I remember pretty clearly the original NWN's copy protection giving people severe issues, enough so that devs were linking the no-cd cracks on the company's forums for people. And I remember because I was one of the ones helped by them.

Yes, they did have some crappy cd-checks on the NWN disk (which were later removed). What is on the Mass Effect disc is a completely different beast altogether.

Then you and I just have different definitions. I would call cutting a whopping 3 out of 8 dungeons (that is like, 37.5%, right? So well over a third of the core content) just to get a game out the door for the holiday season, "rushing". Maybe you have lower standards. Potayto potahto.

Really my only complaint with Wind Waker was how empty things were when sailing from place to place. Having a few more dungeons implemented probably would have alleviated that a bit.

I understand that... either way, however, it's a shitty copy protection scheme, long before EA was even remotely interested, and made the game unplayable for many people.

EA certainly has improved a lot since the EA Spouse days. Meanwhile, Activision seems intent on taking up the now vacant King of Shovelware crown.

If they never took over small quality game producers there wouldn't have been a problem. Since I don't have to buy their games, and I still don't. But the companies I used to buy games from don't put out their games anymore, or it's just crap.

I haven't heard about these dungeons, but I'm guessing they aren't complete dungeons. If that were the case, I think it rather odd that Nintendo wouldn't just delay the game like it did with Twilight Princess.

Because there are other things to hate them for other than their acquisition of certain PC developers, things like buying exclusive rights for NFL, spawning out generic games and samey sequels, the whole "EA wife" thing or whatever that was called (the blog from the wife of an EA worker who was worked to holy hell).

The EA slave thing was pretty stupid. The whole point of a capitalist society like ours is that you can just pack your bags and go work for someone else if you don't like your current boss. Nobody is forcing anybody to be a game designer at game developer X. You can also be one at game developer Y, or PopCap games, or even do something else entirely like starting up a bagel shoppe in rural Colorado.

    Yes. Yes it is.

That's something I can definitely dislike about them. The very existence of that crappy store meant that I couldn't get Mass Effect on Steam.

Seriously EA, sort that store out or acquiesce already!

seriously they just need to copy steam. problem solved. or even the blizzard store is quite well done.

so with ea store I pre-ordered a game but it wouldn't update the purchase history so I go to the main page and its still in my shopping cart, unbought. so I put in the details again and oh look now I bought it twice. so I try to cancel one and can't find out how so I use the FAQ and the cancel part says "pre-ordered games can be canceled. shipped games cannot", doesn't actually tell me how to cancel. nice. so I try to go through my purchase history page but I keep on getting java errors and shit wont load.

so now I can only hope their support staff aren't as useless as their website

Pretty much what everyone else said, no one hates EA anymore except for the irrational.

Hell, I never hated EA, but that's basically because I didn't give a shit about any of those companies they killed.
Oh god, what happened? It stinks like console gamer in here.
    :P

Hey, I'm not gonna deny it. I'm not a PC gamer, never have been and never will me. So that giant list mentioned beforehand, "Wing Commander. Ultima. Dungeon Keeper. Populous. Syndicate. Magic Carpet. Sim Tower/Life/City etc... Dune. Lands of Lore"...yeah. Pretty much meant nothing.

So... why should we care about what you think? No offence, but you seem to be saying "I have no strong opinion on this matter, because I do not know what the hell I am talking about!"

    Edit: So late.

Actually, that seemed to have been an industry wide problem. It wasn't isolated to just EA. The bigger problem was unpaid overtime since most game companies felt that game programmers didn't fall under that category with regards to current overtime guidelines.
That really sucks, but still, nobody is being FORCED to be a game developer at game company X. You can also be a secretary at toy factory Y. Or a journalist at newspaper Z. Etc. That's the whole essence of a free (labor) market.

Do you have a family to support? Do you know how much of a bitch it is to just up and leave your job? With today's job market?
You are describing market failure. You can't really hold a single company like EA accountable for that.

Did anybody mention their adamant denial to support the Dreamcast? I mean, maybe they were moneyhatted by Sony, but it still made little to no sense, and goddamn did it sting.

Didn't kill the DC. But sure didn't help matters much either.

I like the recent direction they're taking. not just in games but in business. for example, the company making Warhammer online was renamed to EA mythic when they were bought by EA... not anymore. they're back to being called Mythic entertainment.

Why are you sad, there seem to be more Command and Conquer games coming out these days than ever before. I myself am pretty excited about Red Alert 3, which looks gorgeous and awesome.

Names don't say much though. You could have a typical subsidiary name like Paramount Vantage and have complete autonomy, or your very own name yet still be totally controlled by the corporate headquarters in everything you do. A name is just a name.
