sticky icky scroll wheel

my old logitech MX518's scroll wheel has become sticky and slimey feeling, I'm not sure why, perhaps it was a cleaning agent I used on it? anyway, it's annoying as hell and makes using the mouse less than pleasant

any ideas / can i fix it
because otherwise I really like this mouse

if not, what's a good replacement mouse... (for comfort, seeing as I don't PC game much anymore)

    barely damp cloth at one end, scroll the wheel with the other finger at the other end of the wheel? That's pretty much all you can do without buying a new mouse.
