So on Wednesday night I picked up some friends and we over to a bud's house to do some end of exam / holiday partying. We arrived at about 5:45pm and the next morning I find I got a parking ticket at 6:10pm on Wed cause his lot is Private Parking. Wtf, we were in his apartment the whole night? There's no guest spots cause its a real small building, like 6 apartments, and I've parked there overnight before with no issues.
So is there anything I can do to get rid of this ticket? Can he talk to his landlord or something? Its not like I was parking there without permission or using it as an overnight lot, I was in the damn building.
Tobias: Or it could be your colon. I'd want to get in there and find some answers.
While im not saying he was right or wrong by parking there, i have queston.
Where is he expected to park if he cant use the parking lot? Any space on the street?

Expected by who? The law and the apartment complex simply expect him not to part in the lot. I don't think they expect him to park anywhere, or care about him one way or another.

So the people living in the apartment building are expected to never have company over?

I guess so. At least as far as the building and other residents are concerned.
When there are six residents and six parking spots, I'm assuming the resident's freedom of having an open space is upheld over any other resident's freedom to have company over that also drives and needs to park.
If I were living there, I wouldn't want someone parking in my spot. I assume it is a provision I pay for.
I can see the concern about not taking someone's spot, thats totally understandable. But none of the spots are marked or anything like that, and even if they were my bud has no car so there should have been a free spot guarenteed to him regardless. There is also lots of space for parking here, its not packed or anything like that. I just think its lame to ticket guests of the building when there are no designated guest spots but plenty of room for guest cars.
ps Kewop the "cry" comment hurt my feelings. I'm not crying, only lightly sobbing :P

Well, given this information, if it wasn't readily advertised to you that only residents can park and there ARE additional spaces, you might have a valid complaint. I wouldn't expect it to go anywhere really, but you can try talking to the issuer.

in San Francisco, there is a $15 'processing fee' even if you manage to fight the damn thing and win, so you may be kind of SOL.

My block expects guests to park on the street. It's actually pretty rare for apartment blocks to provide free guest parking, from my experience.

If you were on private property, and not cared for by a parking attendent. It means that someone called the police and complained.
Maybe the super checks all the cars at night and reports any that aren't registered. If this is the case, try talking to the super next time. Explain that your friend doesn't have a car and that you are just staying one night. Unless parking is really tight I can't see them having issue with this.

You illegally park.
Get a ticket.
Then cry about it?
Just pay the ticket.
You are not a resident of the building.
Can you see where I am going with this?
just pay the thing. fighting a parking ticket is probably a waste of time.

Not always. I beat one. But you really need to be justified.
The OP isn't in this case.

Hint: Towing companies don't keep their impound lots in safe parts of town, they keep them in parts of town where land is cheap.
