GHII progressive scan/HDTV Y halo thar

my friend recently got Guitar Hero II, and has an HDTV. But we tried using the progressive scan option, but the screen just went blue, and then went back, and was still shitty.
The calibrate lag option works a little, and we've found a "sweet spot" at like 170 ms
but it's still weird, the sounds match up but when the notes "burn", they're almost offscreen. Are we doing the progressive scan thing wrong, or is there another way to make the visuals match up?
It could be an input setup. On the one I used for a little while, it was in the menu under "Setup your other devices" then you selected the input the game system was plugged into. Then you could select. "Optimize this input for game systems"
On Gabe's TV it appears from his post that in his setup he could change the "name" of his input to "Game" and this would change the settings.
If you know the TV model, look up that manual online and see if it has a section on Game devices.

You can only enable progressive scan (or 480p) if you have those component cables and a TV that has it, in case you wanted to know. You would also get a much clearer picture with them, and with a TV like what you have, you would definitely notice it.

That's your whole problem right there. You're using Composite cables and they suck. I'm talkin VHS video quality "suck." You need to drop about 30-40 bucks on a set of RedGreen and BlueComponent cables. Without those cables or something digital like HDMI or DVI, you cannot get HD.
they cost somewhere between 100 - 1 billion dollars
You're thinking of HDMI cables. Licensed component cables usually run in the neighborhood of $40-60 but you can always find offbrand cables for your system of choice.

EDIT
Same thing happened to Gabe
