Help with Windows Live Messenger

Hi, my mum's Windows Live Messenger started randomly hanging about two days ago.

When her computer starts up, Live Messenger would automatically sign in, but then it suddnely hanged. After that, I couldn't get rid of msnmsgr.exe from Task Manager, even after trying multiple times. I tried restarting the computer, and Live Messenger worked after that, but the restarting took a long time, about 15-20 minutes. I've tried searching on the Internet but there don't seem to be any people with similar problems. She's using Windows XP and the latest version of Windows Live Messenger (14.0.8089.703 or something like that, Windows Live 2009 I think). Just wondering if anyone has encountered something similar, or know of any possible solutions.

Nothing similar happened to me, but Messenger has a glorious history of wonky glitches. If the problem doesn't occur again I'd strike it down as a case of bad luck.

Update on the situation. I uninstalled Live Messenger 2009 from my mum's computer, and tried downloading Live Messenger 2008. Still got the problem where it hanged when signing in and could not be removed from task manager. Anyone have any idea?
