Can you help an aspiring comic?

Hi All.

New to PA and honestly haven't had to time to check all the thousand posts in art section and here to see if this thread has already been started by someone else, but was wondering if anyone had any advice for starting your own comic book?

My friend (the artist) and I live in Vancouver and i've already asked if there is a small publishing house for comic books here Unfortunately not. This means for now we'll have to absorb the cost of printing and distribution. My next thought was to send it off to a publisher outside of Van, somewhere in Nth America. Any suggestions? Honestly, I only know Marvel/Disney (:() and DC. Anyone else had experience making their own comic book? what was your experience? We're mostly doing this for fun so off the bat neither of us expects a contract with DC at the end of the month, but I've simply never made a venture like this before.

Any suggestions/words of wisdom/stories from personal experience/urban legends would be greatly appreciated. I hope to have at least a draft by the end of the month but I'm just the writer, so my time frame on drawing is a little fragmented.

Hope this receives you well.
MH

You're going to have to self-publish at first. No one (not even the tiny companies) are likely to publish anything you do without anything to go on.

EDIT: Maybe try web comics at first?

Thanks for the advixe guys. Absolutely awesome.

Figured I'm going to have to incur some of the initial cost for first print. Am unsure If this would work as a webcomic as the current idea is to run it as a graphic novel (never do anything by halfs). but I figure I might upload some of the first few pages on the artist pages here.

    Thanks again guys.
