Weird monitor brightness issue

So, here is the deal:
I have two samsung monitors. When booting up or returning from hibernate, the non-primary monitor will be dimmer than the primary monitor. However, if I start an application that loads graphics settings (Bioshock, Team Fortress 2, Champions Online), the brightness will correct itself to the proper setting. Operation after that (provided the computer doesn't hibernate again) are normal, with no observable brightness decay, shadows, or anything like that.
What the eff, yo.
