Ok folks recruitment is over for this adventure. The game is Maptools/ventrillo. I want to start at 7:30pm (us eastern) Saturday 19th.

Characters will be standard rules for starting at level 4. You get choice of a level 5, 4, 3 item and 680 gold to use to buy anything else you can afford. I'm looking for a party of 5 PCs. If there is a lot of interest I would like to offer the possibility of stand-by spaces. I'm not going to enforce a deep background policy for your characters (if you want to then by all means do). Feel free to drop two characters. Tides of War backgrounds only please. PHB 1 & 2 classes only. Go ahead and take a weapon/implement focus feat on me. :D

Game style is Action/Survival Horror with some chances for humor. While the focus is on action there will be some plotting and twisting. This is a homebrew setting. I expect the adventure to last 2-3 sessions.

The Casino Royal.
A man with a funny W shaped mustache has hired you as guards for his airship. He pays very well and has even given you a 680 gold retainer. The man who calls himself Dali pays for your drinks and insists you gather what things you need and meet him at the town gates as soon as possible.

At the gate Dali has rented a wagon for you to ride to his ship while he takes to his horse and leads the way down the road. After about 20 minutes he halts, pays the rider and asks you to follow him through some light woods. After a while you see the woods opening up into the clearing. A massive zeppelin holds a dozen feet over the grass. A rope ladder decends.

    Name: Albert Romero Johnson
    Race: Human
    Class: Barbarian

    Mythweaver Sheet: here

    Background:
Albert was ONCE an archaeologist/anthropologist studying the various "primitive" (his words) cultures of the world. A small, timid, mild-mannered man, he nonetheless managed to survive through sheer dumb luck most of the time, and decently-paid mercenaries the rest.

One of his studies took him into contact with a half-orc tribe that worshipped Grummsh, god of destruction and war. Eventually, he managed to gain their trust enough to witness a ceremony to that primal god, a ceremony invoking magic aimed at increasing the ferocity of warriors attending it.

A ceremony not meant for human eyes.

It warped him severely; increasing his strength and giving him an unhealthy bloodlust, and impacting his intelligence somewhat. Most of his personality is intact, though - he still loves studying the next big find and a cup of his favorite 'Duke Silver' tea, but at the first sign of a fight he'll be one of the first to jump into the fray.

And he doesn't need to pay mercenaries to guard him anymore.

    Appearance/mannerisms:
Albert stands fairly tall and with a weird build: From the neck down he looks like a bodybuilder; but his head looks disproportionately small compared to the rest of him. He has a small, waxed handlebar moustache and (when he hasn't lost or broken it by headbutting someone) a monocle.

Albert speaks with the most offensively stereotypical british accent imaginable and in an ill-fitting high-pitched nasal voice - unless he's fighting, when it suddenly drops and becomes much deeper.

A thoroughly silly character, to be sure.

NOTE: I adapted this from an already-existing level 3 character, so some of the numbers might be off.

Yeah, I think I'm doing a shifter Warden. Okay! All done! http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=153440

    Background:
For a long time, Dyral's town was prosperous and bountiful, there was enough food to eat, and the region was relatively peaceful. Lately though, the harvests and the hunt have become less and less surplus, and the trend worries the town elders. Also, rumors of battle and malicious creatures have filled the ears of the locals. Therefore, the elders decided to send out some of the young men and women to gather news, and perhaps new sources of income and food. Dyral, however, believes that the rumors are simply stories, and that the town simply faced a bad couple of seasons. He plans to go out for awhile, make his fortune, perhaps find some new trading opportunities for his home, and then come back safe, sound, and secure. On the off chance that the rumors are true, however, Dyral is ready, and he will defend his home.

    Appearance:
Dyral appears to be somewhat less feral than most of his family with the sole exception of his ears, which are quite furry and pointed and near the top of his head. He is quite sensitive about them, and always feels that everyone is looking at them. To hide this embarrassment, he always wears the hat his father gave him.

So i'm currently looking at sheets for 2 strikers and 1 defender. Good to see some early interest. I've been doing some thinking on how to "pick" the final party. I think what I'll do is divide each character into a category... Ranged Stikers, Melee Strikers, Leaders, Defenders, Controllers. Then I'll go down the list and roll a dice with sides euqal to the number of submissions for that role. This will be happening friday night at 12pm. That will give us a set list for the game. If you are not picked to not be too saddened. With the end goal of kicking this thing off right on time if any player who was "picked" does not show up by gametime + 5 minutes I will draw from the reserve slots.

So bearing all this in mind, I want to limit each player to two submissions total and one submission per role. This should make things as fair as possible.

Jabez of Sorrow, Dwarf Cleric of the Raven Queen

I have a token and some macros from another Maptool game that when down hill thanks to RL. PM me if you like to see it and see if our macros will work together.

    Background:
Found as a baby by followers of the Raven Queen under the Tree of a Thousand Sorrows, the place were people found guilty of necromancy are killed, Jabez was raised in a monastery to the Raven Queen in Drakehome. He trained to be a cleric and was found to be surprisingly strong and thought to be very blessed by the Raven Queen. He only had one friend, an eladrin named Aya, also a cleric. Together they became a strong team and held a close bond. But one dark day, Jabez's world crashed around him. During a fight against a small force of undead, Aya was fatally wounded. In a rage, Jabez destroyed the rest of the undead, only to hear the last breaths leave her body. He cried until dusk when a mysterious stranger appeared to him.
"She looks almost dead, my son" said the Stranger. "She is." The words could barely leave his lips. "No, she is almost dead. I can still see her soul hanging on. She isn't ready to leave you." Jabez was shocked. "No, I learned that the soul leaves the body as soon as death grabs the body. She's been dead for hours"
The stranger laugh. It sounded dark, dry. Not that Jabez cared, or noticed. "No, you been brainwashed by the Raven idiots. So many have died too soon because of her false teachings. No, she hangs on. I can help her. If you let me..." "If she isn't dead, and you can help, please save her" More tears began to gather in his eyes. He watched as the stranger took from his bag 5 black candles. He placed them in star shape around Aya's body. One by one, he lit the candles, their flames coming to life in a strange and scary dark green light. The stranger began to move around Aya, chanting and spinning in circles. To Jabez, the air became colder, the night darker. The stranger moved faster, the chanting sounding like a thousand people instead of one. Then the candles blow out. All became quite. Jabez moved to Aya. Aya moved to him.
Then attacked him. In the full moon, Jabez saw not Aya. He saw something worst. He was afraid. Unable to attack, to defend. He knew at once what he had done. This wasn't Aya. Those hands was no longer hers. Those eyes showed no kindness, only hunger. As Jabez slipped unconscious, he only wished that the Raven Queen would show mercy to Aya's soul.

Day broke, and to Jabez's surprise, he wasn't dead. His wounds were deep and many still bled but he could move slowly. As he made his way to the monastery, he hear voices. "The traitor, Jabez of Sorrow, created that monster that we saw last night. He talked to Varog, god of the undead himself, to bring a fallen warrior, Aya of the Wind, back to life. Now her morphed body of a demon killed 6 followers of the Queen. He must be brought to justice. Find him and his undead creation. Kill Aya, but bring him alive. He must be tried." With no place to go, Jabez traveled to the near by town, hoping to find a way to redeem himself and hid from the Raven Queen's followers.

    Personality:
Jabez believes that death is final, and that nothing should break that flow of life. He is a hard, stern man who tries to find the good in all people. However, even he can see with a person can not be turned from their path of evil. Jabez says a pray to the Raven Queen for everyone who dies, good or evil. He believes that he shouldn't be the final judge on a person's life.

This isn't a problem per se. But I can see it maybe causing some delays in game play. I hate to say this but if I had the choice to take a player who has vent and a mic over one who doesn't then I probably would. I'm not sure exactly what your situation is, but microphones can be purchased for about 15$ at walmart or target.

Ya kilm, chances are there will be a lot of striker applications so you probably want to app a defender/leader/controller.

Some of you are probably wondering why I'm randomly choosing the party. There is a method behind the madness. One of my goals with this adventure is to include some of the forum's newer members, or maybe members that have been around but haven't gotten into a game. Also, since I want to end it in two sessions I want to start on time and to help enforce that anyone that doesn't get randomly picked to play may wait on stand by in vent. I'll give a 5 min grace period and then take the stand-by player/player's on a first come first serve basis.

Another reason for this is that having to pick a group out of the applicant's is hard on me. It puts me in place where I have to basically pick favorites and I would rather not do that.

If interest is high enough (and I expect it will be) I will be running another one-off the week after this game ends.

Alright, this would be my first ever time with DnD. I've got a copy of the PHB, though.

    Zanne Dasin, Human Wizard

    Background:
Zanne was trained in magic from an early age. His father was a member of a tight-nit cabal of wizards, and upon coming of age he was inducted as well. The order was in search of ever greater knowledge. Zanne clashed often with the rest of the group, he considered their methods out-dated, their grasps limited by tradition and secrecy. Eventually he became fed up and left his studies to instead go out into the world in search of greater power.

    Personality:
Zanne likes to be in control. He is not one to jump immediately into something, but once he is engaged he can become quite impassioned. He has a high regard for his own powers and can often be a bit smug about them.

I have no problem with that. My feeling is that of all the DnD editions this is the easiest to pick up.

    http://www.rptools.net/

You can find the program used for this game's mapping purposes. Appropriately called Maptools :D

Looking over you character you seem to have quite a few magic items. Standard rules call for a level 5,4,3 magical item free and then 680 gold. You can spend the gold however you like.

Sweet deal people. It looks like we have a full crew but I hesitate to end the recruitement drive just yet.

I believe a couple people expressed interest and have yet to send in character submissions.

I finished the final touches on the game last night and I have to say I'm pretty excited about. For those of you who are new to DnD this game may not be the best first impression. Not that I don't love where it has gone, but this is by no means a traditional DnD game. For one thing you will be encountering Characters out of real life and fictional characters from books and video games. I decided to go a little wacky with this one just for kicks really. Also of note in most DnD games the group does some exploring and such, and while that still technically is going to happen the team will be stuck on an airship for the entire adventure using only two maps for the whole game; the upper deck and the lower deck.

Hope you guys/gals are as excited as I am.

    Albert Romero Johnson - Arkan

    Confirmed.

We still need a leader. I've contacted Rius to see if he would like to fill the role as he mentioned being interested but hasn't dropped a character sheet off.

Game time will be 7:30 this Saturday. Please go ahead and download Maptools if you haven't already. We're using the newest version. For those of you new to maptools don't worry too much about creating macros, we'll handle that as we go along.
