So I use the hell out of my headphones. Every day, for hours on end. Unplugging and re-plugging multiple times per day. This seems to put a strain on them, or something, as I am forced to buy new ones every few months or so.
They just break. It is usually one of the outlets just going out, no longer putting out music. And its so sudden. I've been using my current pair for about a month now, they were working great all day, then I set them aside for literally a few seconds to get a snack and poof. Right side no longer giving out anything. :?
What can I do at this point? Would it be worth it to buy a really good pair? Or will those break on me just as fast as the cheapo stuff I've been getting for like $10?
I own two pairs, both of them are going on their 5th year in service. One of them is still in flawless shape after daily use, the other is waning but still plays perfectly.
Rigid construction, beats the hell out of a price-comparable Bose headphone in terms of sound quality, and if a piece breaks, you actually get a sheet with a full part-by-part breakdown so you can order a replacement piece.
In my opinion it's the best 100 dollar headphone on the market. (They list for 150 but you can find them easily for 100 if you shop around online).
Are you using over the ear headphones, or ear buds?
In my experience, the more small and portable, and cheap the headphones I have are, the more likely they are to break down. My folding headphones and my ear buds saw very short lives, but I my thick corded sennheiser's have lasted three years of backpack abuse.

That's like saying a rose smells better than a pile of shit. Practically everything Bose makes is highly overrated and always overpriced compared to other products.

Rollers are red, chargers are blue....omae wa mou shindeiru
I use over the ear headphones. For a few years I used ear buds, but yeah, those broke down faster than my over the ear ones.
And that may be more than I am willing to spend Jasconius. Though I guess that is kind of the core of the problem eh? Get what you pay for and such... hrm
Answer to all your problems. I've had these for over a year and they are still in amazing condition after some seriously rough treatment. The audio quality rivals headphones that are triple or even quadruple the price. I've had three friends buy them after I showed them off.
$50, amazing sound quality, and great construction.
I've had these for three years and Sennheiser has a decent warranty for their products. I've been considering upgrading to a more noise canceling/ better sound, but these are decent for 25 bucks. They have a really stupid long cord though. Like, fucking Stupidly long.
Which I used for a while but every pair I've seen has one side with electrical tape around it where the adjustable mechanism is, the plastic seems to be weak there. sound quality is pretty meh here too, but I've had a pair for like 6 years, they've been my back up pair.
Hrm? You list $25, but the link shows a pair of $100 phones.
I've had two pairs of that $15 sony pair you listed, and both have gone bad for me within a few months.
Luckily I just now found an old bad-quality pair of phones in my closet, so I guess I'll run with these until I can scrounge up the money for a decent pair.
Well you can spend 30 dollars every month on Target headphones or you can spend 100 dollars once every 5 years. Make the call?
yeah, this is pretty much it.
the only pair of headphones I've ever had that lasted more than six months are the grado headphones I bought five years ago for some AU$250. on the off-chance that they completely fall apart tomorrow and I'm too lazy to go and get them repaired, my investment's already paid itself off and then some.

Wrong link. I agree with the people saying spend the money, though. If you killed the sony ones you are probably worse than I am, because despite daily use I have not killed many over the ear pairs. My friend just got a pair he likes that has metal protecting the connectors, I can try to find the name of those.
if you keep breaking the plug end, then get a few short headphone extensions and use those for your plugging and un-plugging needs.... if they go bad, just replace the extension cable instead of the headphones
besides, headphones are stupidly simple devices... no electronics at all... you could easily take them apart and fix the problem
To be succinct, don't buy skullcandies, if you want me to elaborate I will.
I made this mistake once. They are super awful headphones. The sound quality was poor and they broke apart in less than a year, and were $100 over the ear DJ style head phones. Total waste of money.
Technics, Sennhauser or however you spell it, Sony, and Pioneer make the bestest.

If you can't go high end you might as well go low profile, like iPod earbuds which are much harder to crush/dismember/obliterate via force.
