I got a laptop today (the Dell 11z), and need to get a case to carry it around in when I need to. Rather than get a normal bag, I thought it would be nice to get a brief case for it. Don't need anything huge or special. Ideally, I won't be carrying much more than the laptop, the power brick, and maybe my kindle and DS in there. So I'd prefer something fairly small so things aren't bouncing around in there.
I've done a little searching around, and can't really find brief cases for much less than $250. I'd prefer to keep the cost around $50, but I'd be willing to go as high as $90-100 if the case is nice.
Edit: I've been readily convinced an actual briefcase isn't the greatest idea for carrying around a laptop. I'm now looking at more of a shoulder bag, but the briefcase design should give you an idea on what kind of aesthetics I'm looking for here. Something classy and sleek. This is the current bag I'm looking at. It's not the classiest thing in the world, but it doesn't have a whole bunch of extraneous pockets and zippers and shit that I just don't need, and is well within my budget.
Keep in mind, my laptop is damn near a netbook in size, and measures approx. 9x12x1", so I don't want some huge bag to carry this thing around in. Like I said above, the most I'll be carrying around with me is the power brick, my Kindle, and
maybe a DSi.

Not really. As long as it looks nice.
Or a specific "laptop briefcase" like this:
I had a swiss army brand laptop bag that I enjoyed. I think it cost me around $60 two years ago. It looked similar to this:
Consider standing in line somewhere and needing to take something out of your briefcase. You can't just unzip a side pocket or anything, you've got to pop that sucker open and potentially spill shit everywhere.
Also, I think it's guaranteed that everyone who carries around a briefcase will, at one point, have important documents fly out of it and go fluttering away into the city streets.
Case in point.
Good point. I wouldn't be keeping documents in it, but the convenience of pulling shit out vertically would be good.
Don't know if these are any good, but some styles from Saddleback.
I bought one for my first 'real' tech job, then felt like a dork when I realized NO ONE was using them. I suspect this might be different in jobs that still use a lot of real paper, like lawyers or something.

Anybody have experience with the McKlein brand?
A nice bag is something that can look really fucking classy and nice.
I am pretty sure those are outside his price range. By quite a bit.
I've got an Ogio Hiphop but it's more of a shoulder bag/classic laptop bag. I'm not sure if it's what you've got in mind.
Kinda plain, but doesn't go overboard with superfluous shit I don't need. If you have something else in mind that's a bit nicer, I'd love to see it.

The one he's pictured a couple times appears to have a strap. And it's also plain, boring, and doesn't scream HEY THERE'S A LAPTOP IN HERE, CLUB MY OWNER ON THE HEAD AND STEAL ME which is always nice.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
Well, the laptop is only 2-3 pounds, and I got it to supplement my existing computer, so it's not something I'll be carrying around with me 99% of the time anyway.
Just the same, I have decided against a briefcase, and would like people's suggestions on laptop bags.
Edit: Updated the OP to reflect my new parameters.
Ah, yeah. Skipped that paragrah at first. Carry on....
I'll second the "not looking like a laptop" style. Timbuk2s, Crumple, (and 1 other I can't remember) all make good bags that just look like messenger bags or backpacks. From what I've seen downtown Chicago, the backpack seems popular with commuters.
I ended up going with a SOLO vertical messenger bag.
It's a little bigger than I need (holds up to 15.4, and my laptop is 11.5), but doesn't have a whole bunch of extraneous bullshit, and a thousand pockets that I won't have a need for.
Weird stuff in the pockets - a calculator and a flashlight. Account'n in the Dark?

Light weight, slim but holds all the crap that I need. I got it for around $30 Canadian at Winner's (our version of Marshall's.
It is gorgeous and classy.
