edited September 2009 in Games and Technology
Nintendo's annual reveal of tons of shit for the holiday season and next spring is here! Start making shopping lists. From Nintendo's PR:
Upcoming Nintendo-published games for the Wii console include Wii Fit™ Plus (Oct. 4) and New Super Mario Bros.™ Wii (holiday 2009). These games will join the current hot seller, Wii Sports Resort™, which comes with the new precision-control Wii MotionPlus™ accessory. Fans of portable games will enjoy Pokémon™ Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (Oct. 12), Style Savvy™ (Nov. 2) and The Legend of Zelda™: Spirit Tracks (Dec. 7) in addition to the just-released Mario & Luigi™: Bowser's Inside Story, all playable on both Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi systems.

The changing autumn leaves will be in good company with some new colors for the Nintendo DSi system and the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers. New White and Pink Nintendo DSi systems made their debut on Sept. 13, while a Black Wii Remote controller and Wii MotionPlus accessory package will be available this holiday season. A Black version of the Nunchuk controller will be sold separately as well.

Lurking on GAF, apparently this is going to be announced in this month's Nintendo Power, with a teaser page here. Looks all-new to me. I personally haven't played the original either, but it gets a lot of love and a brand-new 2-D platformer from WayForward instantly gets me excited.

I'm also happy to see the Electroplankton DSiWare releases will be coming to the U.S., though I figured it was inevitable. They'll be chopping up the game into 10 pieces and selling them separately; they were 200 points each for the JP release, so I hope that sticks for here. I might sell off my import copy and rebuy a few of the plankton to have on DSi.

My buy list, as long as I have the money for them all is like this for the year:

    TMNT: Smash Up
    A Boy and his Blob
    New Super Mario Bros Wii
    WiiFit Plus

    Hopefuls:
    Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers
    Rabbids Go Home

Very cool that Shantae is finally making a return.

God dammit, Wayforward. I've been waiting for a new Shantae game and they just had to make it for fucking DSiWare. I'm still kicking it with a Lite and have no intention of buying a DSi for this one game. It makes sense for them to put it on DSiWare, given Shantae's history of being unable to find a publisher.... but I'm still annoyed as hell I won't get to play it.

It's the peculiar name for the Modern Warfare port that's coming to Wii ... as in a port of the original Modern Warfare, not Modern Warfare 2, but it's dropping around the same time as MW2 on the other platforms and people will probably be duped into buying it accidentally. Activision, shrewd as always. :?

There actually isn't anything on the DS side that I'm interested in, though some of those DSiWare titles look nice. The only Wii titles I might spring on are Dead Space Extraction and Crystal Bearers; will likely get New SMB as a Christmas present.

Aww, original Bookworm? Come on Popcap, gimme a handheld Bookworm Adventures. I want a hammer that deals extra damage when I spell metal-related words too!

For example, metalloid, metallic, I assume "metal" will count too; gold, silver, auric which is of course derived from the Latin word for gold; conductive, malleable, conductivity, malleability, semiconductor, zinc, spelter, copper, cupric, bronze, tin, stannic, steel, iron, ferric, ferrous, forge, metallurgy, metallurgical, alloy, ingot, etc.

Also, companies need to stop wording their release dates in terms of quarters. Everyone uses a different system, and it's impossible to know when something is coming out.

Dragon Quest Wars isn't even out in Japan yet; I'm sure Nintendo's just waiting on a localization. Because DSiWare here definitely couldn't use any help. (Though for the original DS, it took nearly a year to get high quality shit like Canvas Curse, Dual Strike, and Mario Kart DS.)

Still, DQ Wars made by Intelligent systems, who make the Advance Wars and Paper Mario series. I'm certain they can do no wrong.

Ok, what Nintendo need to do is not fuck up like they did with Lit and the European Shop Channel. If Shante isn't available for the Euro market then that's me not buying a DSi.

When I was at an anime convention in Atlanta recently I noticed that Funimation had a booth and were showcasing the DS Sands of Destruction game. It looked great and I didn't realize some of the Xeno staff were behind it. I'd already seen some gameplay shots in the Nintendo Channel. I'll probably pick it up in January and maybe even the anime of the game in April.

Seeing these kind of lists makes me wonder why Nintendo can't/won't also show a list of upcoming Virtual Console games. They're certainly trying to get us to buy more Nintendo Points with WiiWare and DSiWare, so why not also Virtual Console? They're doing it in Japan, somewhat in Europe, and nothing in NA. WTF?

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has heard about this?
    http://ds.ign.com/objects/029/029469.html

I know an actual "Trackmania 2" has been announced, but also as being PC only. I figure if that IGN link is about a game that exists, it's probably meaning that another Trackmania game is coming to DS. So if it's for real, what has been heard/known about it?

I don't think Oregon Trail is that bad, but Gameloft aimed it at kids. Since most kids don't have these expensive devices, that leaves adults who buy the game so they can relive their disease-ridden failures.

And it had a lot of Mormon facts during the frequent loading. Creepy.

WTF?
Isn't SSB64 like the only big release left anyway?

No. There's still the entire SNES library, and whatever they can get under Virtual Console Arcade.

At the very least, Super Mario Kart, Pilotwings, Pilotwings 64, Final Fantasy 1/2/3 (NA). They've all been known to be either announced or given a new rating in the other regions, if they haven't been released by now. And then there's WHATEVER is keeping Zombies Ate My Neighbours back. The VC save state ability would actually make ZAMN beatable in multiple sittings.

And I'd personally love to have Jumpman (C64) and some form of Q-bert.

    GBA, GBA/PSP/etc., GBA/PSP/etc., DS.

And none of those are really big releases apart from SMK. Pilotwings doesn't really hold up anyway.

It's SSB and perhaps the N64 Mario Parties (back when they were still good) and then... meh.
