I just bought this again last night. I had rented it and beat it, but forgot just how bad the camera is. I remembered it sucks, but playing it again and christ, the camera sucks so much. It is the game's only fault though.

I feel like the camera is the byproduct of a general industry inexperience with juggling enemies that large.
It would be atleast 50% better if the damn thing just stayed where I put it.

It struck me as odd that in a relatively small environment (in comparison to real life spaces) had so many seemingly random structures without any real tie to each other and each using slightly different architecture. If some slight touch-ups had been made to connect everything together just a little bit more I would have been pleased. I know, I know it's an obnoxious gripe but it's all in the details I suppose.
We're talking about an ancient, sacred/cursed/revered land, inhabited by what seems to be some sort of god. I always attributed the structures to different civilizations who lived and left their mark on the landscape over the course of many years.

Great, thanks to this thread, I've gained a new addiction. I remember wanting to play this game back when it came out, but never really got around to it. After being reminded by this thread, I bought the game on my way home yesterday ($20.00 greatest hits, thanks everyone else for actually buying it), and it hooked me hard. As of last night, I just fought the 11th colossus:

[spoiler:560035396c]Seriously, stop running around so I can stab you! Plus, it didn't help that this was the first one I got stuck on. I tried jumping up the front of the fire pedestals, and just dismissed jumping on them altogether. Wasted about half an hour being gored before I tried going up the side. Argh. Loved the mechanic of getting him off the cliff, though, right out of left field.[/spoiler:560035396c]

I can understand gripes with the camera, but I've played so many platformers that adjusting to the camera is nearly second nature. Other than that, this game most likely (I haven't finished it yet) will end up being near the top of my favorite games. Mostly, I just wanted to thank this thread for reminding me of this game. I had no idea what I was missing.

Oh, and anyone saying that the controls are horrible, or that it's too hard to find the colossi, have you thought of taking up cross-stitch? It doesn't look like viedogaming is gonna pan out for you.

[spoiler:560035396c](I realize it may be a preference thing, I just felt like starting a fight)[/spoiler:560035396c]

The generally accepted wisdom is that it's Wander reincarnated - as a kind of redemption for what he did - and that somehow the horned kids in ICO are his descendants. Fumito Ueda's refused to be specifically drawn on connections between the two games (he's stated in interviews he doesn't really care that much about the stories in his games) but AFAIK he has admitted they are supposed to be linked.
    [/realspoiler:3332819293]

Spoilers for both SOTC and Ico:

[realspoiler:3332819293]Ueda has gone on official record stating the SOTC is the prequel to Ico, and that Wander in horned baby form becomes the progenitor of the line of horned boys.

Based on that, it looks like a portion of Dormin's life/death power resides in them, and the Queen in Ico wants to drain it out of them so she can live forever.[/realspoiler:3332819293]

[realspoiler:3332819293]I hadn't thought of that. I guess that's why people bring the horned boys to the castle, because they descend from dormin, and they give them to the queen, who absorbs them.

but I always thought the queen's plot to live longer was to take over the girl's body in ICO. so what was she for then?[/realspoiler:3332819293]

hugh, Multifarious just said that further up the very quote tree you just posted. ;)

Though I've never seen any interview where Ueda specifically said that. Link, anyone? I'm not doubting it or finding fault with it, I've just never seen it categorically stated, and he has said he's not really bothered about story - SotC just began with the idea of having a tiny guy fight very, very big enemies, nothing more. (Although off the top of my head I can't give a source for that, so... )

aww, man... I could just see that colossi..shoot it at the bottom of it's head...shimmy up the legs... man.

at least they kept that flying serpent fight, hmm? I finally finished that one- turns out that the camera kept making me think I was near when I was too far out from the flippers. When I finally got it, I felt like something out of those cowboy movies where they jump from a horse to a moving train.

after getting through the list, Ive come to realize one thing- not only does this game need an HD, next gen , the works, re-make, but it needs to include those extra one. it must have been heartbreaking to decide which ones to take out during production due to heardware capabilities. :(

I finally picked this up 2 days ago and got around to killing the first 10 colossi. Pretty damn cool so far. Every time I kill one, I can't help saying something along the lines of "That's right, stay down".

My favorite colossus so far has to be [spoiler:fd644003e8] Avion. When you jump on to him as he flies at you... pure awesome. [/spoiler:fd644003e8]

The hardest Colossi for me to solve and kill was #3.

[spoiler:666f597a41]I didn't know you had to get the Colossi to strike the stone platform in order to break it's armor and allow you to climb it further.
So when it struck the ground with it's weapon and got stuck, I assumed you only had to climb it.[/spoiler:666f597a41]
But it was near impossible to reach it's weakpoint without doing the correct trick, leaving me to assume I wasn't good enough at climbing.

All the other Colossi were not as difficult because the game would give hints to defeate them way too soon. If there were an option to turn the hints off, I would have done it.
