Installing .NET 3.5 SP1 on Vista 64-Bit

'K, need some help:

My laptop has Vista Media 64-Bit, and I'm attempting to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 with exactly zero luck. I currently have .NET 3.0, of which all the features are turned on in the Control Panel, but I need to get up to 3.5 and my machine is not letting me.

Anyone know how to work around this? The error log is as follows:
Description:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 has encountered a problem during setup. Setup did not complete correctly.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: VisualStudio8Setup
Problem Signature 01: 35101
Problem Signature 02: 3.5.30729.01_ORCAS_X86_NET
Problem Signature 03: MC
Problem Signature 04: INST
Problem Signature 05: F
Problem Signature 06: CA_CSD_GREEN_INSTALL_amd64_enu.3643236F_FC70_
Problem Signature 07: 1719
Problem Signature 08: 1603
Problem Signature 09: -
Problem Signature 10: gencomp302,{12cd
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID : 1033

Additional information about the problem:
LCID : 1033

Any advise would be appreciated. I tried to do some research on my own for this and I see that other people have had similar problems, but I'm very much not tech-savy and got lost fairly quickly. Thank you!

makes me think you're trying to install the 32-bit version of .Net 3.5 SP1.

First, do you have SP1 for Vista installed? If not, you'll need that installed first. Go here:

If you do have Vista SP1, then get the .Net 3.5 install from here:

Unfortunately I do have Vista SP 1, and that's the same file I've downloaded before. It will boot up and download additional files and attempt to install, get half-way through, and then get an error message.

I would uninstall any previous version of the frameworks on your machine if you haven't already, specifically 2.0 or 3.0.

.NET 1.1 is not compatible with 3.5 so you may want to keep it around in case an app needs it.
