so this is a pretty funny concept, because it has no value to them. All it does is obliterate North America after they're gone. What's the point? The only way it would have been useful is if they had publicized it, but instead they keep it a secret for twenty years after the fall of the USSR. Why bother?

I am guessing it was not secret to Republican Jesus.

Reagan surely had to know about this, along with other high ranking officials of the time... it just was never public knowledge until now.

What do you think the arms buildup between the USA and USSR was about? Who would actually win a war?

Not a fucking chance, the whole point was Mutually Assured Destruction. Both sides want the other to know that if they started anything, nobody would win, ever.

Revenge? I mean, nobody's saying it was a good reason

Also, that article mentions that it was actually meant to deter their own personnel from jumping the gun and launching an attack in a tense situation; it would calm the more hotheaded generals with the knowledge that they would still have their vengeance even without a pre-emptive strike

Also perhaps not the best reason, but if it was gonna keep some Russky from getting nervous and making the first strike then I guess it was okay

This is a country that caused a famine that killed millions of people just to prove a point.

Cheyenne might be hit, actually. F.E. Warren Air-force Base.
