How much should I charge?

Hello, all. I'm bilingual, and have been asked by a connection of a professor of mine to do some translations of a foreign manual for some technical equipment. I had no idea I would be expected to charge money for this, but I was asked what my rates were, and I'm pretty stymied as to how to respond. What do you guys think?
