So after years of not playing one I'm getting a craving for some TCG/CCG action going.
I've played a number of games over the years, starting with magic the gathering, and ending most recently with UFS (though I only have the gabe and tycho decks)
I'm looking for suggestions on a good game, with collectible and draft play, and a better community that yugioh or whatever.
I thoroughly enjoy duel style card games over indirect ones like star trek and the like, but I'm open to whatever.
We have a thread for the wow ccg which is actually really fun. If you haven't tried it, that's one. You can get the really old sets for dirt cheap to try the game out.

Just want to note that WoW is practically MtG. Since the OP has already played MtG, he may be looking for something completely different, and this isn't the case. Now I played WoW after it was first released, and didn't really like it too much.
Not sure how much it's changed, but the mechanics couldn't have changed that much to really set it apart from MtG. Aside from that, it's not a bad game at all, just wasn't for me. I still enjoy MtG and was looking for a different type of game when I got this and was highly disappointed.
Back to the OP, I guess it depends on what you're looking for.
In regards to community, I'd take L5R over any other game, hands-down. From what I've seen, the community's a bit older than most of the other games, and seems to be a bit more polite. (Exceptions to the rule, of course, but they're far and few between.) New base set came out this summer, and it's pretty awesome. Wasn't really set up for drafting, though. You can do it, but it's going to play a bit different. (There's some fixed "Draft packs" you can get that have some fixed cards that you use.) Plus, it's got a "stability" factor going for it. It's been around almost as long as Magic has, and isn't going away anytime soon.
WoW's a good choice. Good in draft as well in constructed. I think that it's got a bit more "flavour" in the decks than Magic does, due to actually having "classes" and a "hero" being the face of your deck, instead of being Yet Another Faceless Planeswalker #3004. Dunno how the community at large is, the WoW players I see a lot at our game club are pretty cool guys. There's probably a bit of overlap between it and Magic players. (For better and worse, if you know what I mean.) The Raid Deck system's pretty awesome, too, if you've got friends. (Three to five players teaming up versus a super-powered Boss deck.)
It's not collectible in the traditional sense, but I'm rather liking Warhammer: Invasion. There's no random "booster packs", instead there's going to be a monthly "Battle Pack" (around $9) that comes out that's fixed and has new cards for many factions. So, you know exactly what you're buying when you pick them up. Game's pretty damn fun, although since it's just coming out this week, what the community looks like is yet to be seen.

There's a Call of Cthulhu LCG (living card game) by the same company, Fantasy Flight Games. I keep looking at it, but I have no one to play the game with currently unfortunately. It's an interesting concept.
Basically MtG but the designers were so enthusiastic and the tournaments were a blast.
The only problem is there isn't really a presence for it around here.
EDIT: Right about now I'm intrigued by the WoW TCG and that Warhammer: Invasion game.
Though I probably wont play the WoW TCG as I am quitting the MMO this month.
Also L5R sounds interesting, the lack of good drafting isn't a huge hit for me, as long as the constructed play is good.
Yeah, I played The Spoils at PAX07, played their demo a few times and ended up buying some cards but couldn't get any of my friends interested. Was disappointed to not see them present at PAX 09, figured they had fell off the face of the earth.
Although it was an MtG clone, Wizards even copied off The Spoils with Planeswalkers being mechanically very similar to the Location cards in it. But the game was fun even if it was derivative.
Another card game I enjoyed a great deal was an old one my friend introduced me too, it was the battletech card game and it was alot of fun though relies heavily on book keeping.

IT's sad really it is.
They put a lot of effort into testing the game and it doesn't seem to be taking off.
I had a killer rage deck from drafting a few times.
I shit you not, a friend of mine really loved the game back before they got bought out and had financial difficulties for a while, so when they started kicking around again, he phoned them up and got really buddy-buddy with the little company picking it back up.
Legend of the Five Rings (often abbreviated L5R) is a fictional setting created by the Alderac Entertainment Group in 1995. The setting primarily involves the fictional country of Rokugan, though some additional areas and cultures have been discussed. Rokugan is based roughly on feudal Japan with influences from other East Asian cultures. This setting is the basis for the Legend of the Five Rings Collectible Card Game as well as the Legend of the Five Rings Role-Playing Game. Legend of the Five Rings was also the "featured campaign setting" of the Oriental Adventures expansion to the third edition of Dungeons & Dragons, though this book is now out of print.
The deep, evolving story of Legend of the Five Rings is one of the features that sets it apart from most game settings. Players of the collectible card game, and to a lesser extent the role-playing game, can influence this story as it progresses by participating in sanctioned tournaments. The winners of major tournaments make pivotal decisions that can influence the storyline for years to come, with winners of minor tournaments influencing the storyline in lesser ways.

The reset has done wonders for balance. I've never seen the game as balanced as it is right now. And it's a great time to jump in.

Both are excellent games, and being LCGs they'll be lighter on the wallet.
Warhammer: Invasion has a much sleeker and more interesting system in my eyes, though.

Just to endorse what PMAvers said: WoW is different enough from Magic to be a good game on it's own. While there are of course similarities, the mana system, the deck building and the combat are quite different. If you have played the MMO then part of the fun is to recognize cards. On the other hand many players of the TCG don't play the MMO and that is no handicap.
I guess you could just check out some stores near you for Battlegrounds (this is basically the equivalent to FNM), where you should find players to explain the differences between the games to you and provide you with a deck for some testing. If you'd rather play at home, then the Drums of War Starter (it's called a PvP deck sometimes) contains an alliance and a horde deck to throw at each other. The next block is coming out in November, so there should be new beginner decks then. There is a "bring a new player" program for the sneak peek, where both players get some free boosters so I'm pretty sure everyone at your local BG will be pleased to meet you.

I hear a lot of people really like that.
I had no idea it was still around.

I did some previews and such for the WoW TCG and played a few games after launch, and it seemed OK if extremely derivative of Magic.
It's too bad they stopped making the old GI Joe TCG. That was the best 4 minute card game ever.
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.

He's a judge and promoter for it now.
Also, yeah, Spoils is really excellent.
