Looking for some quick gaming advice. I've only had my PS3 for a few months now and just downloaded the demo for Uncharted 2. I am loving it and based on all the reviews, I will probably buy it when it comes out.
Is it worth my time and money to buy and play Uncharted 1 before I buy the sequel? Would I be missing out on some story or something?
Thanks in advance!

I've always heard that it was one of the best games on the system. And there are some recurring characters that you might want to know about.

Supposedly you can play Uncharted 2 as a stand-alone, but playing the first will give you a heads up on the backstory of three of the main characters in the second one. You should also be able to pick up a new copy of Uncharted dirt cheap these days.
In short, unless you're virtually penniless, buying the first game would be worth your while.
Uncharted is pretty good. I'd go for that one first. I kind of dislike playing a sequel before the original because I get used to the improvements and gameplay changes they've made.
Thanks for the great advice guys, I ended up buying it.
However, it has already frozen up on me. I thought they fixed that problem after the latest firmware? Anyone else having this problem?
I had it happen once, but I don't know how current my firmware is. I think I remember reading that the newer firmware actually caused the freeze problem, but don't hold me to that.
Your best bet might be to ask in the Uncharted 2 thread. Someone there will know all about it and you can learn more about Uncharted 2. Win/win, especially if you're interested in the multiplayer of Uncharted 2 and are looking for players who won't call you a variety of interesting and derogatory names when you play with/against them.
I bought Uncharted 1 on Thursday and it crashed like a motherfucker. I was pissed. Then I download the optional 3.0.1 patch to the PS3 firmware that fixes the problem.
How much should it cost? I had the exact same question, so this topic is really convenient.
I always have trouble finding games used or at reduced prices... Target and Wal-Mart barely lower the prices of games (maybe $40), whereas a place called Media Play that went out of business years ago used to lower games to $10.
I'm pretty adamant against doing business with GameStop from what I've read about the company.
Maybe I'm cheap, but $30 still seems like a steep price to pay for a 10 hour video game. I found GTA IV for $15 used, so I was hoping to see something lower than even $30 for a game this short.
I'd happily pay the $60 for Uncharted 2 since it has multiplayer, but I'd also like to play the original. I guess my only choice is to rent it, then.

I had no idea there was a 3.0.1. patch out. Thanks!
Yeah, I just realized I never downloaded 3.0.1. I just installed it and its working great now
PS - Awesome game so far.
Well shiiit. Now I'm going to go lose a few hours playing the new demo.
If I'm cranky this afternoon because I don't get my early morning nap, I'm blaming you Enos316.
Glad you're liking it. I found it to be a huge time-sink. I don't think I emerged into the real world until I finished it.
Yeah, when I played it I started as soon as I got home at night, finally got to bed around 4 or 5, and the second I woke up played it through to the end.

Get Uncharted.
You would be missing out on a pretty great story and the introduction of a bunch of characters. And also awesomeness.
Do... Re... Mi... So... Fa.... Do... Re.... Do...
Forget it...

However, you should play Uncharted because it's a damn good game, and you can pick it up used for the cost of a couple happy meals.
