I have an HP/Compaq Presario R3000Z, and the battery no longer charges when it's on AC power. The AC socket is pretty wonky, too, so if I don't have it plugged in just right it slips loose or something and the laptop just shuts off because there's no power in the battery (even though I just had to get it resoldered a few months ago).
Is this something I can fix by replacing the adapter or battery, or is it likely to be something like a motherboard replacement? Is this an unusual problem, or is it common for laptops to experience problems like this after the warranty's up?

this happened to my shitty korean laptop about a month ago. replacing the motherboard will definitely fix the problem, although if your warranty is up that isn't much help to you. so your choices are a) get it resoldered again and hope it sticks this time, or b) get a new laptop. which is what I'm going to do. condolences.
